Er, yeah, we like him, but.

“President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton again top a poll ranking the “most admired” living persons, a list dominated by national politicians.

In the USA Today/Gallup poll, President Obama was the most admired man for the third year in a row, followed by former presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

Hillary Clinton was the most admired woman for the ninth year in a row, edging out Sarah Palin and Oprah Winfrey.”

Heh, Bush beats Bubba? Sweet. Nevertheless while Americans like The One, a majority thinks he sucks as a president.

Talk about Delusional:

“In my opinion Matt Drudge is the most important and influential single figure in American media. In terms of daily and ongoing influence he is more influential than The New York Times, the television networks, cable news or anyone else.

Let me suggest here that Drudge’s power may turn out to be more of a curse than a blessing for Republicans and conservatives because in my view, it fosters delusions that can lead to defeat. Recently a Gallup poll, of course highlighted on Drudge, found that Obama’s numbers had (then) turned more unfavorable than favorable. This has (now) dramatically changed, unreported by Drudge, with Obama’s favorables now well above his unfavorables. The generic Democratic vote is leading the generic Republican vote in the last Gallup congressional election survey. The healthcare bill has passed and the president’s polls have moved up. Democratic numbers have crept up. Media focus on right-wing death threats is alienating political independents and motivating the Democratic base. But readers of Matt Drudge, listeners to Rush Limbaugh and viewers of Glenn Beck are being fed a false dose of Republican triumphalism and a megaphone for what a majority of voters might see as extremism that is both delusional and politically damaging to Republicans.”

Really? Let’s explore those “rising numbers”. First, the president’s polls have NOT moved up in any way. In fact they are worse today than last week.

Gallup daily on the 29th, has his disapproval at 50%, a new high. Rasmussen Reports has his “Strong approval/disapproval” at -13 (It’s note been a positive number since July of last year).

As for those congressional ballot leads, the GOP leads on Real Clear Politics averages by a full percentage point. In the Rasmussen it’s more than a 9 point advantage.

Son, step away from the jug!

50% in CNN Poll Think Obama’s First Year in Office a Failure

obama_smoking_jointWow.

“Washington (CNN) - Americans are giving Barack Obama a split decision on his first year in office, according to a new national poll.

Forty-eight percent of people questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Tuesday say Obama’s presidency has been a failure so far, with 47 percent saying Obama has been a success. The poll’s January 12 release comes just 8 days before Obama marks one year in the White House.

The survey indicates that Obama’s approval rating as president stands at 51 percent, down 3 points from last month, with 48 percent disapproving, up 4 points from December.

“On the plus side for Obama, he remains personally popular and he gets decent ratings on foreign policy and national security issues. That may explain why his overall approval rating is a little higher than the number who say Obama’s first year has been a success,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. “Unfortunately for Obama, domestic issues - led by the economy - are far more important to the public than foreign policy issues, and a majority disapprove of how he is handling every single economic and domestic issue tested.”

According to the survey, the economy by far remains issue No. 1 with Americans, with 47 percent saying it is the most important issue facing the country today - up 7 points from last month. Health care, at 15 percent, is the second most important issue with the public, followed by the deficit at 11 percent. Terrorism is tied with the deficit, and up 7 points from last month, most likely do to widespread coverage of the attempted terrorist bombing of a U.S. airliner on Christmas Day.

The dominance of domestic issues in importance is most likely a contributing factor to the slight dip in Obama’s overall approval rating.

“Only 44 percent approve of how Obama is handling the economy; just 4 in 10 give him a thumbs-up on health care and his approval rating on the federal deficit has plunged to 36 percent. Those are three of the four most important issues on the public’s mind today,” says Holland. “The president’s ratings also suffer from the growing perception that he is too liberal - 46 percent feel that way today, up 10 points from March.

The poll also indicates that 1 in 10 say that Obama has not been liberal enough. But while the public takes issue with Obama on the issues, two-thirds continue to believe that he has the leadership skills and personal characteristics that a president should have, and that may explain why his overall approval is so much higher than his rating on the issues of greatest concern to the public.”

Of course this is a CNN poll, known for wide oversampling of Democrats to Republicans. We don’t know the sample here because - for the first time - CNN’s mole, Opinion Dynamics isn’t telling us. I wonder why.

But this is earth shattering to say the least. Obama get crummy marks on just about everything that matters especially the economy just when he’s trying to ramrod his unpopular Obamacare down American’s throats. Not exactly going to further endear him to the people for sure. Even more important as his unpopularity continues the decline as we get closer to the 2010 elections watch more and more Democrats who are running for seats to distance themselves from him.

That translates into lack of support for any of his policies, especially Obamacare. Remember it all still has to come to a vote after the Senate and House versions are combined and since the original votes were cast there have been retirements and lost elections - I’m looking for Brown to upset Coakley in Mass.

In any case it’s what I predicted when Obama was elected that sooner or later the facade would fall away and the American people would realize the mistake on election day 2008. In fact it’s happening sooner than I expected.

Dems Rip Rasmussen Reports for Low Obama/Dem Numbers

democratic_sealDemocrats aren’t happy about Rasmussen Reports - one of the most accurate of polling firms.

“Democrats are turning their fire on Scott Rasmussen, the prolific independent pollster whose surveys on elections, President Obama’s popularity and a host of other issues are surfacing in the media with increasing frequency.

The pointed attacks reflect a hardening conventional wisdom among prominent liberal bloggers and many Democrats that Rasmussen Reports polls are, at best, the result of a flawed polling model and, at worst, designed to undermine Democratic politicians and the party’s national agenda.

On progressive-oriented websites, anti-Rasmussen sentiment is an article of faith. “Rasmussen Caught With Their Thumb on the Scale,” blared the Daily Kos this summer. “Rasmussen Reports, You Decide,” the blog Swing State Project recently headlined in a play on the Fox News motto.

“I don’t think there are Republican polling firms that get as good a result as Rasmussen does,” said Eric Boehlert, a senior fellow with Media Matters, a progressive research center. “His data looks like it all comes out of the RNC [Republican National Committee].”

“Whether intended or not, Rasmussen polls have been used by conservative voices as talking points, and when that happens on one side it inevitably produces a reaction from the other,” explained Mark Blumenthal, a polling analyst and the editor and publisher of Pollster.com. “Rasmussen produces a lot of data that appear to produce narratives conservatives are promoting, and that causes a reaction.”

Of course this is pathetically laughable. As the Politico rightly points out there has been no more accurate polling by any other firm since 2004. Rasmussen correctly predicted the 2004, 2006, 2008 elections, and has an accurate pulse on the low approval ratings of the Democrats as well as Obama’s ever sinking numbers.

I’ve never really been a fan of polls, the proof they say, is in the results and how accurate they turn out to be in the end. Democrats would do well to stop trying to take over American’s lives if they hope to see a reverse of fortune and shooting the messenger won’t help.

Zogby - Obama at 45% Approval

Like I said, down to the 30s by the end of the year the way it’s going.

” President Barack Obama’s popularity has plummeted to a record low, with just 45 percent of voters now approving of his performance, according to the latest Zogby International poll.

Asked whether they approve or disapprove of the president’s job performance, just 45.3 percent of likely voters say they approve. That compares with 50.5 percent who disapprove of the job Obama is doing.

The results are a strong indication that contentious national debate over healthcare reform has taken a major toll on the president’s popularity.

Those numbers also indicate that Obama clearly is in serious political trouble, Fox News analyst and best-selling author Dick Morris tells Newsmax.

“As soon as Obama dropped below 52 percent . . . he was leaking real voters who had backed him in November,” Morris tells Newsmax. “Now that he is down to 45 percent among likely voters . . . he is in deep political trouble.”

Of greatest concern to Obama may well be his decline among all-important independent voters. Just 37.5 percent of self-identified independents say they approve of how Obama is handling the presidency. That compares with 59.2 percent of independents who disapprove.

“There is nothing counterintuitive in any of these numbers,” pollster John Zogby of Zogby International tells Newsmax. “The president is clearly taken a slide — most especially with independent voters, who play such an important role in any legislation or policy support.

“Interestingly, the president had been making some inroads with groups like investors, and frequent Walmart shoppers . . . both typically conservative,” Zogby says. “However, he has slipped considerably with them in this poll.”

Zogby adds: “The healthcare plan appears to be consolidating conservative opposition and scaring independent voters.”

Obama’s drop in the polls is historic. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a faster or deeper drop in Presidential polling, especially in the first six months.
