I Want Some of What Marc Ambinder is Smoking!

Talk about whistling past the graveyard.

“At the beginning of the month, I predicted that August might turn out be a bloodbath for Democrats. At the time, the Democratic self-containment on health care had dissolved, cranks were taking over constituent meetings, and that real anxiety about Obama had found a channel and political opponents of health care had an edge. And it was a bloodbath. No question: the White House was taken aback by the ferocity of the health care debate, the media was confused, activists were alarmed, and Republican enthusiasm shot up. But a funny thing happened on the way to the morgue…

The worst thing that could have happened to Democrats — and the one thing that needed to happen in order to kill health reform — did not happen. The Democrats held together. Moderates were not intimidated. Don’t confuse their constituent meeting pander with changed minds.”

Keep toking that pipe Marc. But through the fog we find via The Hill that at least 23 House Dems have already told their voters that they will vote “No”, and 38 would kill the thing outright. By the way, Senator Snowe isn’t supporting the bill in spite of wishful thinking of the media.

Obama’s Hail Mary Pass

You can sense the desperation. Barack Obama on Wednesday will address a special joint session of congress at 8pm to try to sell America again on his failed health care plan.

“President Barack Obama plans to reach out to Republicans and reassure — rather than confront — his liberal supporters when he addresses an extraordinary joint session of Congress at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.

But he will warn lawmakers against seeking a perfect plan and then winding up doing nothing, as happened to the last Democratic president back in 1994.

The high-stake speech makes sense because Obama is such a gifted orator. But it is also risky because if poll numbers on health-care reform don’t improve after he speaks, it will be clear that the problem isn’t in the packaging, but in the proposal itself.

The contents of the speech were still being debated over the weekend. But here is what POLTIICO gleaned from conversations with top aides:

1) Obama will lay out a specific “President’s Plan,” even if he doesn’t call it that. He will make clear what’s on the table, and what he thinks warrants further debate, such as how to pay for the overhaul.

2) He will not confront or scold the left. “This is a case for bold action, not a stick in the eye to our supporters,” said an official involved in speech preparation. “That’s not how President Obama thinks. The politics of triangulation don’t live in this White House.”

3) He will make an overture to Republicans. “He will lay out his vision for health reform – taking the best ideas from both parties, make the case for why as a nation we must act now, and dispel the myths and confusion that are affecting public opinion,” the aide said.

4) He will make it clear that it’s better to get something done than nothing done. White House aides are reminding fellow Democrats that the party lost Congress in 1994 by failing to do any health reforms at all after Congress balked at the original plan by President Bill Clinton. “The lesson of 1994 is not that tackling health reform is politically perilous. It’s that failing to act could be devastating,” said Dan Pfeiffer, the White House deputy communications director.

5) Obama will try to reassure the left about his commitment to a public option, or government insurance plan. Aides said they are rethinking what he will say about this. He wants to thread the needle of voicing support for a public option, without promising to kill health reform to get it. But liberal congressional leaders were unyielding in their support for it on a conference call he held from Camp David yesterday, and he’s going to meet with them at the White House early next week.”

He can forget about the public option, it’s dead, in the dirt just like his poll numbers. This reminds me of the guy who continually apologizes to his wife even after she’s left him. Again, the public won’t be watching, they’ve watched less and less with each Obamacare news conference.

Moreover, the networks are in the midst of new shows being premiered this week which also don’t bode well for ratings.

It’s really just a hail mary pass, the only problem for him is that he has nothing but midgets in the end zone.

Fire up the Townhalls - Senator ‘KKK’ Byrd wants to rename Obamacare “Kennedy Care”!

Shades of Wellstone. Not even cold in the ground and just as I predicted Dems want to turn Obamacare into Kennedy Care, and rename the healthcare legislation after him.

“BYRD STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF LONG-TIME

FRIEND AND COLLEAGUE SENATOR TED KENNEDY

Washington, DC – Senator Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., issued the following statement upon learning of the passing of his dear friend Senator Ted Kennedy:

“I had hoped and prayed that this day would never come. My heart and soul weeps at the lost of my best friend in the Senate, my beloved friend, Ted Kennedy.”

“Senator Kennedy and I both witnessed too many wars in our lives, and believed too strongly in the Constitution of the United States to allow us to go blindly into war. That is why we stood side by side in the Senate against the war in Iraq.”

“Neither years of age nor years of political combat, nor his illness, diminished the idealism and energy of this talented, imaginative, and intelligent man. And that is the kind of Senator Ted Kennedy was. Throughout his career, Senator Kennedy believed in a simple premise: that our society’s greatness lies in its ability and willingness to provide for its less fortunate members. Whether striving to increase the minimum wage, ensuring that all children have medical insurance, or securing better access to higher education, Senator Kennedy always showed that he cares deeply for those whose needs exceed their political clout. Unbowed by personal setbacks or by the terrible sorrows that have fallen upon his family, his spirit continued to soar, and he continued to work as hard as ever to make his dreams a reality.”

“In his honor and as a tribute to his commitment to his ideals, let us stop the shouting and name calling and have a civilized debate on health care reform which I hope, when legislation has been signed into law, will bear his name for his commitment to insuring the health of every American.”

“God bless his wife Vicki, his family, and the institution that he served so ably, which will never be the same without his voice of eloquence and reason. And God bless you Ted. I love you and will miss you terribly.”

“In my autobiography I wrote that during a visit to West Virginia in 1968 to help dedicate the “Robert F. Kennedy Youth Center” in Morgantown, “Senator Kennedy’s voice quivered with emotion as he talked of his late brothers and their love for West Virginia. ‘These hills, these people, and this state have had a very special meaning for my family. Our lives have been tightly intertwined with yours.’”

“I am sure the people of the great state of West Virginia join me in expressing our heartfelt condolences to the Kennedy family at this moment of deep sorrow.”

In honor of this, we in the South Florida Conservative Action Group are firing up the emails and faxes to strengthen our opposition to nationalized healthcare.

Death Panels DO Exist - The Case of Barbara Wagner

Barack Obama:

“This irresponsible talk of “death panels” offends me”

I don’t know why. After all Oregon has had death panels for a long while now.

Here is a report from Oregon about Barbara Wagner who is dying from Lung Cancer. The State of Oregon told her that instead of helping her to live with a drug that may help her live longer, they would help her die instead.

Watch.

The next time that you hear some lefty Obamanite talk about “There are no “Death Panels”, show them this.
