What is Obama’s position on Disgraced (yet still on the job) William “Dollar Bill” Jefferson?

Obama has an opinion on everything, even Gonzales:

“Barack Obama today released the following statement on the resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

“I have long believed that Alberto Gonzales subverted justice to promote a political agenda, and so I am pleased that he has finally resigned today. The President needs to nominate an Attorney General who will be the people’s lawyer, not the President’s lawyer, and in an Obama Administration that person will first and foremost defend and promote the rights and liberties enshrined in our Constitution,” said Obama.”

So I called the official Obama for President Headquarters and asked them what Mr. “Chameleon Pundit’s ™ position on an indicted congressman still occupying his office. They hung up on me. So I called back, and was put on hold. I called back and again received a no comment.

Seeing that Obama was all talk about “Cleaning up New Orleans“, seems he owes us an opinion on “the brother”. So how about it Obama? Should William Jefferson - who “subverted justice” resign immediately?

I won’t give up until I get an answer, and I do have my ways.

AG Gonzales to resign - UPDATED

I guess we saw it coming.

“WACO, Tex., Aug. 27 ‚Äî Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, whose tenure has been marred by controversy and accusations of perjury before Congress, has resigned. A senior administration official said he would announce the decision later this morning in Washington.

Mr. Gonzales, who had rebuffed calls for his resignation, submitted his to President Bush by telephone on Friday, the official said. His decision was not immediately announced, the official added, until after the president invited him and his wife to lunch at his ranch near here.

Mr. Bush has not yet chosen a replacement but will not leave the position open long, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because the resignation had not yet been made public.”

If Gonzales was going to hand in his papers this is a good time. Congress is out, Labor Day is here. In other words no one outside gives a crap or is even paying attention.

As the left quickly reminds people ad nasuem, Gonzales is President Bush’s personal friend. Because the the left is for the most part so morally bankrupt they wouldn’t know that he resigned simply to allow his friend to continue his term without dragging it down just because Democrats are determined to continue their witchhunts.

Word is that DHS Chief Michael Chertoff is going to be his replacement. May be a good move, but Democrats are still going to drum up new “problems” in order to pester the President for the remainder of his term. Chucky Cheese Schumer is swearing, “Democrats will not obstruct or impede a nominee who we are confident will put the rule of law above political considerations.”

Yeah….coming from the Chief of Political Hacks.

UPDATE: Rich Lowry beat me to it, but the fact is that Gonzales chose to resign, he wasn’t forced.

“Just talked to a DOJ source who says this is how he understands it: Gonzales went to Texas last week to spend time with his family and reflect. He thought the Josh Bolten rule about if you’re going to stay on now, you should stay to the end of the administration applied to him too. He decided to leave based on the stress and impact on his family of staying on the job; on the distraction staying would have represented to the department; on the work he had done to get the department stabilized (put in place a new deputy AG, changed hiring practices, and referred entire mess to the IG); on the fact that, with a huge FISA fight coming, the department needed someone with 100% credibility leading it. He also has a kid in college and another coming up and wants to earn some money to pay college expenses. This source says of the resignation, “I have no reason to believe it wasn’t fully his decision.”

This confirms what I received from someone very close to Gonzales. Again, character and principle, something that your average democrat like William Jefferson, Chuck Schumer and Patrick Leahy couldn’t spell without being struck by lightening.

UPDATE II: Chertoff will NOT be getting the job, more to come.

Impeach Gonzales?

Not likely….although some wackjobs on the Dem side are going to try:

“From NBC’s Mike Viqueira

A group of House Democrats will introduce a resolution calling on the Judiciary Committee to begin impeachment proceedings against Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA) will sponsor the measure. It will be dropped in the hopper tomorrow.

It’s too early to say whether it will actually get anywhere.

Here’s the text of resolution…

RESOLUTION

Directing the Committee on the Judiciary to investigate whether Alberto R. Gonzales, Attorney General of the United States, should be impeached for high crimes and
misdemeanors.

1 Resolved, That the Committee on the Judiciary shall
2 investigate fully whether sufficient grounds exist for the
3 House of Representatives to impeach Alberto R. Gonzales,
4 Attorney General of the United States, for high crimes
5 and misdemeanors.”

Heh..since when have democrats really worried about “lying”?

You know it’s amazing that no other leftist organization is more worried about whether Gonzales lied (he didn’t), than Media Matters which is run by former Clintonista John Podesta. If you will remember was Podesta who testified in court or before Congress 264 times that he didn’t remember, didn’t know, or something similar. The hypocrisy of these idiots is pathological.

Nevertheless this “hopper” is DOA.

Enough is enough - Condemn the Witchhunt Now

In spite of this unbelievable coup by Senate Democrats conspiring with rogue DOJ officials to unseat AG Alberto Gonzales, the President will hold fast and is right to do so. Gonzales isn’t going anywhere.

In nearly six months of hearings based on nothing except the hate of Democrats for President Bush, they have uncovered nothing at all in the so-called US Attorney scandal. Not one shred of evidence showing anything other than politics as usual, political appointees work at the pleasure of the President - period.

After his testimony, Senator Leahy is now hinting perjury charges again AG Gonzales based on what he and his cronies see as conflicting testimony. Others, such as the legal eagles at Powerline are responding to this fallacious charge this morning so there is no need for me to respond, other to agree that there was no conflict in the testimony and Leahy and his gang know it.

Choosing to cite honorable public servants such as Harriet Miers and Josh Bolton with trumped up contemp charges shows just how corrupt and morally bankrupt the Senate Democrats have become. Whenever you have Patrick Leahy, who once lost his job becuase he couldn’t keep secret documents secret you have entered a bizzaro universal where good is evil and evil is good.

Which leads us to just how long the American people have to put up with this partisan witch hunt before they say “enough”.

Bluntly, Leahy is the McCarthy of his time. Outside of party affiliation (Democrat/Republican) there is no difference between the two. Senator Jospeh McCarthy ran rabid over people’s lives attempting to ruin not only reputations but the person themselves, he was only finally stopped after people said, “enough” and rightly censured him. Congressional members on both sides of the isle rose up to publicly challenge McCarthy and in the end condemn him.

I know that there isn’t a lot of conservative support for Gonzales, or even for Harriet Miers, but there should be support - no, there should be the courage for Republicans to stand up to this nonsense. There should be the guts to stand up and say, “enough” and begin to call into question the questionable motives of Leahy, Schumer, Conyers, and other Democrats - none of which can throw stones in the areas of impropriety or lack of credibility.

It’s time for Republicans to step up and defend what is right against what is clearly wrong and corrupt. That is to stop an out of control congress and put an end to their assault on the Constitution and the President of the United States.

Enough is enough.

Democrats, “We have the evidence!, Now testify so we can have some evidence!”

Sounds confusing.  No more than this tripe.

(Warning - Biased BS Alert Amy Goldstein reporting):

“House Democrats, preparing for a vote today on contempt citations against President Bush’s chief of staff and former counsel, produced a report yesterday that for the first time alleges specific ways that several administration officials may have broken the law during the multiple firings of U.S. attorneys.

The report says that Congress’s seven-month investigation into the firings raises “serious concerns” that senior White House and Justice Department aides involved in the removal of nine U.S. attorneys last year may have obstructed justice and violated federal statutes that protect civil service employees, prohibit political retaliation against government officials and cover presidential records.

The 52-page memorandum, from House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.), seeks to explain why Democrats are trying to overcome an effort by the White House to shield officials and documents from the congressional inquiry through a claim of executive privilege. The report also provides the first written account of the Democrats’ interpretation of the firings and the administration’s response to the controversy.

The investigation “has uncovered serious evidence of wrongdoing by the department and White House staff,” Conyers says.

The memorandum says the probe has turned up evidence that some of the U.S. attorneys were improperly selected for firing because of their handling of vote fraud allegations, public corruption cases or other cases that could affect close elections. It also says that Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales and senior Justice aides “appear to have made false or misleading statements to Congress, many of which sought to minimize the role of White House personnel.”

In addition, the memorandum asserts repeatedly that the president’s top political adviser, Karl Rove, was the first administration official to broach the idea of firing U.S. attorneys shortly after the 2004 election — an assertion the White House has said is not true.

In one of more than 300 footnotes, the Democrats point to a Jan. 6, 2005, e-mail from an assistant White House counsel that says that Rove “stopped by to ask . . . how we planned to proceed regarding U.S. attorneys, whether we were going to allow them to stay, request resignations from all and accept only some of them, or selectively replace them, etc.”

The memorandum says that lawmakers need access to White House information to determine whether laws were broken and to rewrite laws regarding U.S. attorneys.”

Again, Political Appointees can be fired for ANY REASON.¬† That could be for wearing the wrong perfume - ANY REASON.¬† Oh, and by the way, it doesn’t matter who suggested it, and it’s perfectly legal and right for a presidential aide to make such an inquiry.¬† Now that the Donks got their “contempt citations” approved, it’s going to die there.¬† The DOJ will NOT refer to prosecution (good word).
Now with that aside, what’s this evidence that these jackasses are referring to? ¬† According to this report there is no evidence only the same assertions Democrats have been making all along.¬† No evidence - not one shred.¬† Just because Conyers and his clowns and nutroot constituants think it’s wrong doesn’t make it so.

As Tony rightly says:

“Repeating unsubstantiated assertions over and over again won’t make them come true. After months of hearings and thousands of pages of documents, the committee appears to have now shown what little they have to show for it.”

Which is absolutely correct. ¬† Dont’ kid yourself, I’ve told you before there is a reason they’re going after Gonzales, and it has to do with ongoing and pending investigations into several key Democrats and their activities over the last six years.¬† This whole farse is to neuter the DOJ and in effect hold them hostage via these hearings.

It’s not going to work and they know it and it explains why they continue their insane rantings and assault on the constitution.

Perhaps in light on what Congress is really trying to do, it’s time to begin to charge some of them contempt, that might be exactly what is needed to stop the nonsense.
