Politico misreports Significance of Palin appearnce at NRSC Dinner

I suspected as much. Newbusters busts Politico’s Alex Isenstadt coverage of the even by calling it a thud.

“Reports on Governor Sarah Palin’s appearance at the National Republican Senatorial Committee dinner in D.C. on Monday nearly all mention that she was quite the center of attention with dinner attendees. Well, all agree with that characterization but Politico’s Alex Isenstadt, that is. Isenstadt seems to have been the only one to report that her attendance was a dud. This spurred our friend Videmus Omnia to wonder if Isenstadt went to the same dinner as everyone else? After looking it over, I have to ask the same question.

For Politico, Isenstadt snorted that Palin’s appearance at the dinner “went little-noticed.” He also stated that, “If she hadn’t walked quickly across the stage the outset and if her presence hadn’t been mentioned briefly in the remarks of some of the evening’s speakers, it would have been hard to know that she had, in fact, shown up.” So there you have it. No one cared a whit that Governor Palin attended the dinner.

But wait. A perusal of other media accounts says just the opposite.”

As I said yesterday, it was Obvious that Isenstadt’s effort was designed at toning down what was in fact a stellar and important appearance by Sara at the dinner.

Everyone who actually attended gave a completely different account saying Palin was focus of attention and indeed other media outlets reported it accurately.

The Politico locked and loaded on Sara during the campaign running 3-1 negative stories about her compared to Obama. It it looks like their ramping up again.

Clue for Newt - You Don’t Speak for Us

Do us a favor Newt, fade away.

“Senator John McCain Sunday distanced himself from Republican National Committee attacks on Obama, and in a letter to RNC Chairman Mike Duncan, Gingrich went further, writing:

I was saddened to learn that at a time of national trial, when a president-elect is preparing to take office in the midst of the worst financial crisis in over seventy years, that the Republican National Committee is engaged in the sort of negative, attack politics that the voters rejected in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles.

The recent web advertisement, “Questions Remain,” is a destructive distraction. Clearly, we should insist that all taped communications regarding the Senate seat should be made public. However, that should be a matter of public policy, not an excuse for political attack.

In a time when America is facing real challenges, Republicans should be working to help the incoming President succeed in meeting them, regardless of his Party.

From now until the inaugural, Republicans should be offering to help the President-elect prepare to take office.

Furthermore, once President Obama takes office, Republicans should be eager to work with him when he is right, and, when he is wrong, offer a better solution, instead of just opposing him.

This is the only way the Republican Party will become known as the “better solutions” party, not just an opposition party. And this is the only way Republicans will ever regain the trust of the voters to return to the majority.

This ad is a terrible signal to be sending about both the goals of the Republican Party in the midst of the nation’s troubled economic times and about whether we have actually learned anything from the defeats of 2006 and 2008.

The RNC should pull the ad down immediately.

Just as with McCain, who lost for being “nice”, Newt doesn’t get it either. We’re not being “mean” for mean sake, there is a very real concern at this point of Barack Obama’s honesty about what transpired in the Blagojevich scandal, therefore - like it or not Newt - questions remain.

Fact is Newt the only “destructive distraction” is you, John McCain and other “Mr. Rogers Republicans” who are so shell shocked that they no longer recognize right and wrong. As we move forward on the grassroots level we will marginalize you, your influence and what is left of your legacy.

McCain Should Ride Off to the Sunset

Scolding…?

“McCain replied: “I think that the Obama campaign should and will give all information necessary. You know, in all due respect to the Republican National Committee and anybody — right now, I think we should try to be working constructively together, not only on an issue such as this, but on the economy stimulus package, reforms that are necessary. And so, I don’t know all the details of the relationship between President-elect Obama’s campaign or his people and the governor of Illinois, but I have some confidence that all the information will come out. It always does, it seems to me.”

One of the big reasons McCain lost is because he’s gotten “soft”. Because he didn’t “go there”, we’ve got the most inexperienced - and now most questionable - person to ever get to the White House. If he’s lost the stomach to play in the rough and tumble of politics that asks for accountability, then perhaps it’s time to for him to retire.

Colin Powell the Latest in the “GOP needs to get Progressive” Crowd

This is getting old…

“(CNN) — The Republican party must stop “shouting at the world” and start listening to minority groups if it is to win elections in the 21st century, former Secretary of State Colin Powell said Thursday.

In an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria for Sunday’s “GPS” program, President Bush’s former secretary of state said his party’s attempt “to use polarization for political advantage” backfired last month.

“I think the party has to take a hard look at itself,” Powell said in the interview, which was taped Wednesday. “There is nothing wrong with being conservative. There is nothing wrong with having socially conservative views — I don’t object to that. But if the party wants to have a future in this country, it has to face some realities. In another 20 years, the majority in
this country will be the minority.”

Powell, who crossed party lines and endorsed President-elect Barack Obama just weeks before the election, said the GOP must see what is in the “hearts and minds” of African-American, Hispanic and Asian voters “and not just try to influence them by… the principles and dogma.”

“Pinciples…” Yeah, something Powell had at one point before he started opening up the State Department leak machine during the 2004 election. Again, one of the many reasons why he was fired. (Note: Andy Card asked for his resignation - it’s the same thing).

Principles such as strong borders and enforcement of immigration laws isn’t just a conservative issue - it’s an American issue. It’s what survey after survey shows what Americans want.

Yet on a greater note, it wasn’t “principle and dogma” but the lack thereof that cost us. We loset the conservative core message that kept us winning 5 of the last three presidential elections. Our message was convoluted and what message there was was being given by a false prophet of conservatism in John McCain. The reason Sarah Palin so energized the party is simply because she communicated the core beliefs that America has always believed in and looked for.

It was too little too late. Barack Obama one simply because he deluded Americans into thinking that he - not John McCain - was the true model of conservatism. Amazingly America bought it.

It’s good that Powell crossed party lines, but it’s a one way door. We don’t want him, or any like him any more. I hope he has a nice life on the otherside. He’s anathema with us true republicans.

When we clean house, we’ll once again occupy the White House.

It’s that simple.

Franken is Dreaming

Delusional…

“Franken campaign attorney Marc Elias said today that Franken is within 50 votes of Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.), according to the campaign’s internal tally, and believes that Franken can overtake Coleman when all the ballots are tallied.

Today’s announcement from Elias comes as election officials from Ramsey County have found 171 ballots that went uncounted Election Night at one of the county’s precincts, which has netted Franken an additional 37 votes. Ramsey County is one of the more reliable Democratic strongholds in Minnesota.

The votes are currently being tallied in the recount.

With over 91 percent of the vote recounted, the secretary of state’s official tally shows Coleman up by 340 votes. But Elias argued the number is misleading, given that none of the 5,952 disputed ballots are included in that tally. The Coleman campaign has challenged 191 more ballots than Franken’s team, skewing the results in its favor.

Elias said, based on the Franken campaign’s own count, they believe they have picked up 165 votes on Coleman so far.

“We’re confident we’re going to gain votes when the challenges are resolved because we believe our challenges are of a higher quality [than Coleman’s],” said Franken attorney Marc Elias. “The vast majority of these challenges are going to be thrown out.”

Franken’s campaign team is also attempting to count absentee ballots that it believes were wrongly rejected. About 9,000 absentee ballots were rejected, and Elias believes up to 1,000 of them were rejected unfairly.”

The Franken camp is bluffing and trying to buy time, but the fact of the matter is that the Coleman camp is very confident about their numbers. The only count that …counts though is the Minn. Secretary of State numbers, and Coleman is at 340 and sure to gain even if disputed ballots are counted. Franken would have to win 4 out of every 5 uncounted or disputed ballots to win and that simply isn’t going to happen.
