You only have to read a bit on the story from the Washington Post to see the PDS that still and always will exist with the media.

Washington Post political reporter Lois Romano – a woman I think during an online Q&A:

“Question: Washington, D.C.: RE: Dave Letterman. Lois, any thoughts on the Letterman-Palin imbroglio?

While I agree that the children of politicians should normally be off limits for jokes, I find the “outrage” about what Dave Letterman said to be ludicrous. As he explained, he thought Bristol (a teen mother who seems quite comfortable in the spotlight) was the daughter who had accompanied her mother to NYC, not her 14-year old sister.

Dave rightly apologized for that screw-up, but I don’t see that he has anything else to apologize for–unlike commentators such as your colleague Howard Kurtz, who sees an equivalence between this situation and what happened to Chelsea Clinton.

Even 16 years later, I still vividly recall prominent GOP leaders–including John McCain, Dick Armey and Newt Gingrich–making vile cracks about how ugly Chelsea (a teenager at the time, don’t forget) supposedly was, and asserting that she was the love child of Hillary Clinton and Janet Reno. What I DON’T recall are any denunciations of those comments, let alone any apologies from the perpetrators”

So several wrongs make a right? And how is calling Palin a slut and her daughter – either one – a whore, any different that saying that Hillary was pimping out Chelsea?”

Not to be outdone, fellow WAPO journalist Chris Cillizza on The Fix blames it all on – of course – on Palin:

“Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin sure knows how to attract attention.

Days after the “will she or won’t she” sweepstakes regarding her attendance at a congressional fundraiser ended, Palin has taken issue with recent comments made by late night comedian David Letterman.

During a monologue on his “Late Show” Monday night, Letterman took after Palin several times but may have crossed the line when he joked that “her daughter was knocked up by (Yankee third baseman) Alex Rodriguez” during the seventh inning of a game.

Palin wasn’t laughing, describing the incident as nothing more than “sexually perverted comments made by a 62-year-old male celebrity.”

So it’s Palin’s fault that she’s the victim of sexist comments by dirty old men such as Letterman?

Then Cillizza unbelievably invites the readers of his blog to vote/comment on whether Palin is a concerned mom, or an attention addict.

“For today’s Wag the Blog question, we want to hear Fixistas take on this issue. Was Letterman out of line? And, if so, is Palin’s outrage based on a maternal instinct to defend her children or out of a desire to reinforce the idea to average Americans that she is the leading defender of traditional values in the public sphere? Some of each?”

Excellent! So now you know the Washington Post’s position on women. Obviously when it come to being called a slut and a whore women should shut up and take whatever comes their way. After all, Dave is only kidding!

Unless of course they are a liberal democrat.
