While at Camp Bonifas (A former American Base now occupied by the South Koreans) I got to experience first hand the tension on the border. I thought your readers may find a few tidbits of info interesting. 1. The American first responders to a war has to be prepared in less than 45 seconds. Our guys did this in 37 seconds. The ROC guards have to meet special qualifications to even stand guard. A couple being they must be over a certain height ( I forgot the height but it is taller than the average male Korean). They must have atleast a second or third degree black belt in martial arts. The North keeps a file on every AMerican military officer that does this tour (Picture, rank, date of tour). Our military are required to wear their uniforms when doing the tour). ROC guards must stand in position for 2-3 hours straight without movement. Their eyes never stray off the NK guard they are watching. I have pictures of this. This is a huge task considering the horrid heat and humity in Korea. My husband was photographed by a NK guard across the border. While the NK guard was taking this shot, I took a photo of him as well LOL. There are many NK officers that live outside the base at Osan. The US knows that there are NK spies that work in this base as house keepers etc. This was by far the greatest experience of my life. It really made me appreciate being an American and loving my country even more. I wonder if the SK college kids are still holding their weekly protest right now?
