It’s not dead, but slowly dying. Just two weeks ago it was on the way to flying through the Senate and then people actually got around to reading the dang thing, called their Senators and said, “Pass it and you’re out of a job”. In fact some like Senator Lindsey Graham are really beginning to feel the pinch. Now you have Senators running away from the bill as fast as they can and the opposition to the bill growing by the hour.
“Washington, D.C. (AHN)-Senate Republicans are beginning to galvanize opposition to the immigration overhaul that President George Bush has made a domestic priority.
Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, speaking to Bloomberg Television, said the way in which the White House and the bipartisan group brought the bill forward has posed some problems.
“We’re beginning to see some of the people that would have ordinarily voted to proceed with the bill to say, `hey, this process is not fair, it’s not transparent,”’ Senator Cornyn said.
Among those Republicans who Senator Cornyn cited: Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas and Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson of Georgia
On June 26, to inch the bill forward, 60 senators will have to vote to resume debate on the thorny issue.”
“Thorny” ain’t the word. You can add Senator Gordon Smith as a NO as well. This thing is dying faster than Nifong’s legal career (and freedom by the looks of things).
Today the fact that next week there will be a “no” vote on cloture is a far gone conclusion. Inside staffers are beginning to smell the egg on face that normally occurs when politicans try to slide on over on the American people and get caught.
It’s not dead, but it’s just a matter of time. Keep up the pressure, it’s working.

1Want the bill dead and for the Senatores from Massachussettes to start all over again? Put out the word on the construction steet that there is lots of work, at high wages, near Kennedy’s home. When his state is overwhelmed with 500,000 illegals he will start hearing from those that are not really affected at this point.
How long must we suffer that fool?

2I’ve got an idea. Let’s teach the republicans a lesson. Let’s elect democrats for all those seats. Great strategy,Mac. I nominate you for president Hillary’s campaign manager. And her successor, Obama’s chief political strategist. The GOP will much more effective with 25 seats in the Senate. GREAT PLAN!!!

3RJD,
Horsefeathers….
It’s the GOP base, the real base that according to every poll who is against this bill.
Bush’s numbers among Republicans has dropped 23 points in three weeks, specifically because of the immigration proposal. If this had been 2004 you would be watching Flipper give news conferences.
It’s a paper tiger argument that opposing this bill hurts the GOP, when in effect those conservatives who want the bill passed use the argument of “gaining hispanic” votes. That’s the strategy of the Democrats.
Conservatives stand on principles, not on politics, that’s what makes us the better party.
The American people have spoken in every poll that they are against the passage of this bill as written. In case we forgot, the majority rules.

4K-Lo on NRO has the latest report–it’s still not a sure thing that cloture will fail. Eight more votes are needed .

5RJD, if you think Dems are not against this bill, think again. Only they think it is not going far enough to provide them with a base that traditionally votes for them that promises the most free stuff, i.e. Democrats.
Now LULAC, a major Hispanic “Atzlan” group, is against this bill. Why? Because there are certain restrictions placed on the illegal that they don’t like. Like being deported if they are criminals. Wow! And these were the guys (LULAC) that had daily conferences with Teddy Kennedy.
