Although the MSM in this country has been busy using Bob Woodward’s book to re-define history, another more explosive story is about to be unleashed just in time to send Democrats scrambling for Pepto.

All the buzz around the DOJ water cooler is about one Rep. “Dollar Bill” Jefferson. What orginally was thought to be a run of the mill “corruption scandal” ($100,000 in the fridge), is now having major international implications, as Nigerian VP Atiku Abubakar has been suspended for three months – pretty much taking him out of the running for President in 2007.

As we know Jefferson was lining his pockets with kickbacks for family members for helping iGate get inroads in Nigeria. In fact back in August of 2005 the FBI simultaneously raided Jefferson’s home and the Maryland home of Nigerian Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and his wife Jennifer.

Jennifer – a founder of the Gedes Foundation, a non-profit organization which fights the spread of AIDS in Nigeria. Jennifer founded Gedes (now apparently no longer operating), with “benevolent dictator”, Clinton honoree, Jerry Rawlings, former two term President of Ghana. As you may know, Clinton went on a twelve-day tour of Africa in 1998, which has it’s own implications in the news of today – and got an especially warm reception in Ghana. Of course this is all too coincidental with Jefferson’s reported trip to Ghana in July 2005 to meet with Ghana VP Aliu Mahama.

The exact connection of Jennifer to Jefferson isn’t clear but sources say it is believed she may have acted at a conduit for Atiku and Jefferson. She has since relocated back to Nigeria, but she is none the less an interesting character. Complicating her involvement is that although a college student she seemed to possess hugh weath, and in fact many think she indeed funnel a portion of an estimated 600 million dollars (possibly Gedes funding) into Swiss Banks just after the story of the raid on her home broke. Indeed some investigators believed that Gedes was a front used to funnel money.

So how does this make Democrats scramble? Well Jefferson is most likely to be criminally implicated for his involvement as soon as next month. Again as I said before there is no evidence that anyone else on the Hill got enriched by fortunes. But as observers on Washington know, that hell has no fury like a former compadre scorned. Democrats worked quickly – and rightfully so – to pull for his removal from the Ways and Means Committee, but he wasn’t exactly happy about it. After all he hadn’t been charged yet and he felt a little, well, jaded shall we say – rather “betrayed”. If Jefferson is indicted – as he most likely will be – previously unknown connections may come to light.
