When Rich Lowry sounds like Markos Moulitsas Z??niga, joining the Iraq = Vietnam/Quagmire . Just more of the “cut and run” hysteria and fear mongering. Now thanks for your imput, shut up. But first a comment on your hysteria.
“In Iraq, as in Vietnam, we face a vicious insurgency that has worn down the will of the American public. In Iraq, as in Vietnam, we have failed to cut off the enemy from re-supply. In Iraq, as in Vietnam, we have had ever-shifting military strategies. In Iraq, as in Vietnam, we have had trouble building effective, clean governmental institutions in the soil of an alien culture. Most importantly, in Iraq, as in Vietnam, we face the prospect of defeat.”
Not even close Bucko. Get your nose out of the Dan Rather chronology of the Vietnam War and into reality. Fact , the present conflict hasn’t worn down the “American people”, at least not the ones I’ve talked to who still support our efforts – it’s not as grim in the Heartland as you make it sound. Secondly, while the established government in Iraq (secured by the first free elections in decades), while shaky, is light years beyond anything we ever hoped for in Nam. The only comparison between the two conflicts is a negative leftist antiwar MSM then as now REFUSES to report ALL the news out of Iraq, choosing instead to film from Hotel balconies or replay the latest car bombing. The very same method used in Vietnam. Fact is that there is plenty of good news and progress (hell son, it’s only been three years!) happening in Iraq but no one will talk about it because it doesn’t fit the “agenda”.
Rich has officially “jumped the conservative shark”, as have some of the others over at the Review. Simple “get even” over Bush’s immigration thrust, he (who had the opposite view in 2003) and Byron York and others at the NRO have been singing with the left ever since. Shows you who your friends are – ‘et tu’?

1NRO? I must admit that they’ve been getting more and more skidish about EVERYTHING!! Which I suppose proves that it is easy to criticize, and, it seems, popular these days. One less thing for me to bother reading I guess. I must confess being less and less inclined to read NRO for some time now without actually knowing why. Now, I do.
BTW…whazzup with this?

Reporters to be forced to testify in Barry Bonds case concerning “leaks” of secret grand jury testimony. But we can’t seem to find it necessary to haul reporters in front of grand juries when it’s a matter of NATIONAL SECURITY??? WTF???

2Carol,
Big mouth “lawyers” *close to the investigation*.
However, there is a grand jury taking place right now, vis-Tice, and I’ll be posting a bit on that tomorrow.

3Hey Mac,
I saw Lowry doing his thing last night on one of the news shows and could have just shot him. What a bafoon. Sometimes these people get way too full of themselves.

4I find myself sticking with the Weekly Standard, myself. I think that National Review and Human Events represent a form of cosnervatism inadequate to dealing with the war on terror.
At the risk of sounding like Don Rumsfeld, I think conservatism needs to transform to deal with the challenges posed by the war on terror.

5You are all right on…and Rick Lowry had been one of the better ones. That’s scary.
This was the site of the orginal major Repub atttack on Repub. When you have the “world”, UN, EU, Democrats with their MSM controlling 99% of the TV, mags and papers for the masses, Middle East and 2 wars and head choppers galore…..we either all hang together or turn that hoard loose on ourselves.
I have zero patience with the Repubs that walked off that cliff and determined to drag us all.

6Right on, Mac. I am sick of these fatalists and defeatists hissy fits. They have jumped the shark a while ago, imho…sadly. They are way too full of themselves…and frankly, they have forgotten that they can’t rule the day…30/30/30 country, donncha know.
