As you’ve heard me say a hundred times, it was a lack of core conservatism that cost the GOP in 2008, 2010. A Gallup Poll found that:
“PRINCETON, NJ — Despite the results of the 2008 presidential election, Americans, by a 2-to-1 margin, say their political views in recent years have become more conservative rather than more liberal, 39% to 18%, with 42% saying they have not changed. While independents and Democrats most often say their views haven’t changed, more members of all three major partisan groups indicate that their views have shifted to the right rather than to the left.
These findings, from a June 14-17 Gallup Poll, somewhat conform to Gallup’s annual trends on Americans’ self-defined political ideology. Thus far in 2009 (from January through May), 40% of Americans call themselves conservative, up from 37% in 2007 and 2008, and the highest level since 2004.
However, the results are conspicuously incongruous with the results of the 2008 elections, in which the Democratic Party won the White House for the first time in eight years, and increased its majority control in the U.S. House and Senate. Rather than suggesting an upturn in conservatism, the elections, the tattered image of the GOP, depressed identification with the Republican Party, and President Obama’s broad popularity have many in and outside of the Republican Party wondering whether the country has outgrown the GOP’s largely conservative platform.”
Which it did not. The data shows only that Americans went for Barack Obama because they bought into the lie that he was some type of middle of the road democrat with a few conservative principals. Of course they see now that he doesn’t have a conservative bone in his body.
The real point is why Americans are returning to their conservative roots. The answer is because they’ve seen the contrast between what true conservatism is when compared to the in-your-face liberalism we see today. The majority of Americans are already sick and tired of the wasteful spending, the specter of increased taxes to come. Americans are seeing their country being systematically squandered away and it’s awakened their core values, which are America’s values. This is NOT a liberal country, never has been, never will be. From it’s founding it has been and always will be a conservative nation – period. Thank GOD Americans are waking up.
The good news is that we will continue to see this number of professed conservatives grow over the next year, which should excite conservatives for the election years to come. The time is RIPE for a true conservative leader. One to lead us back to where we belong.
Borrowing a Biblical analogy, we are, and Americans are, as “Israelites”, under bondage, looking for their Deliverer.
I do not know who that may be. It’s definitely not some of the present crop of GOP candidate we have now, most of which are – to use another Biblical example – “Wolves in sheeps clothing”.
Which is why I say, do not too quick to dismiss Palin, she might just turn out to be a modern day Moses.
