Unions shoot themselves in the head.

For months prior to the election, the CWA (in violation of Beck) sent out newletters supporting Obama. Since the election, the CWA newsletters have push the enactment of universal health care. I warned CWA members (and I know a lot of them) that this was a mistake as it would come back to bite them.

Currently the CWA is in negotiations with AT & T for a new four year contract. This new contract includes old SBC and BellSouth employees.
The major sticking point is health care. AT & T wants the employee to pick up a larger portion of the cost with higher co-pays that would reduce the per employee cost (over $10,000/yr) of coverage to AT & T.

AT & T's position is that the union has backed universal health care provided by the government and should be more than happy to switch plans from the company provided health care to a federal system if members don't want to absord the rising cost of their health care benefits. The CWA is apoplectic. The CWA recently crashed an AT & T stock holders meeting demanding increased medical benefits and are now on a campaign to get Democratic congress critters to threaten AT & T with increased FCC regulations. AT & T is standing its ground.

Months ago, AT & T retrained all its supervisors in field work. That means that those supervisors, who are not union, will be in the field in the event of a strike. I predict there will be a strike and in the end, the union will lose as AT & T has become more and more automated in the last four years.

So it is as I predicted months ago. The unions have backed Obama, have backed his plans for a federal health care system (i.e. insurance) and now, when faced with having to accept what they backed, they are in a twit and don't want it. Socialism is great as long as it is the other guy who has to pay for it but when it hits your home, or paycheck, it's not so much fun.

I also asked my doctor about the medical records thing. He said he was trying to figure out a way that would prevent the government from being able to access his patient's records without their approval.
