Via the Volokh Conspiracy, who catches this hypoocrisy in the media coverage of Joe the Plumber, who they didn’t hesitate to remind us that he owed $1800 in a tax lien. It’s nothing compared to the “messiah’s” sin:
“when an actual candidate — Barack Obama — released his tax returns, which on their face seemed to show an ethics violation of Illinois law, the press couldn’t care less.
Just to remind you, Illinois prohibits state legislators from taking speaking fees, and Barack reported “speaking fees.”:
Apparently, as an Illinois state legislator through 2004, Barack was prohibited from taking honoraria for speaking under the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act.
But what about Barack Obama’s 2000 and 2002 tax returns?
2000: On his 2000 Schedule C-EZ, Barack reported that he received $16,500 as a “Foundation director/Educational speaker.”
2001: On his 2001 Schedule C-EZ, Barack reported $98,158 from a Chicago law firm, Miner, Barnhill, for “Legal services/attorney” (and nothing for speaking).
2002: On his 2002 Schedule C, Barack reported $34,491 for “LEGAL SERVCES / SPEAKING FEES.”
These “speaking fees” are in addition to the amounts that Barack was paid as an employee, a lecturer at the University of Chicago, reported on the first page of his 1040s.
The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (apparently last changed in 1995) provides:
(5 ILCS 420/2-110)
Sec. 2-110. Honoraria.
(a) No member of the General Assembly shall accept any honorarium.
(b) As used in this Section:
“Honorarium” means a payment of money to a member of the General Assembly for an appearance or speech “

1Yeah, the media just can’t seem to find any dirt on the annointed one. No wonder, they have all their crack reporters digging through Cindy McCain’s garbage can, talking to teenagers in Sarah Palin’s daughter’s school, and making sure they don’t miss a thing about Joe the Plumber. Ya know, it’s really too bad they have lost so much readership and can’t seem to keep enough reporters on staff to really do their job, isn’t it?

2It is a real shame that the first presidential candidate who is “African-American” is Barack Hussein Obama. It appears from all we’ve witnessed that the majority of blacks will vote for him solely because he is black. The fact that Powell is endorsing him is, despite his efforts to prove otherwise, proof of that. They couldn’t care less about his policies – which if successful, will lead this country into the ground and onto the road towards a socialist government. They will attempt to fix our economic crisis with the money of the MIDDLE CLASS. Can’t you people see this? In his interview with “JOE the Plumber” he admits it.
He really doesn’t need to explain all of the frightening claims against him because the majority of his voters don’t care! His associations and lack of experience mean nothing. He is half-black, that is all that counts.
I wish the first African-American President of the United States was fully qualified instead of sorely inexperienced and anti-American.in his associations and limited past performance in the political arena. That way the possibility of another African-American President would be more likely. As it is, if Obama wins this election, all blacks to follow in his footsteps will be measured by his actions/inactions while in office.
I will continue to pray for our country to come to its senses and vote for McCain and Palin
