Overdue, but welcome.
Via AP:
“A group of House Republicans called Wednesday for a congressional investigation into the improper handling of classified documents by President Clinton’s national security adviser, Sandy Berger.
Berger admitted last year that he deliberately took classified documents out of the National Archives in 2003 and destroyed some of them at his office. He pleaded guilty in federal court to one charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material and was fined $50,000.
Ten lawmakers led by House Armed Services Chairman Duncan Hunter, R- Calif., and Judiciary Chairman James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., released a letter calling for the House Government Reform Committee to investigate.”
I believe this is bigger than it appears, and there might be more to come. Something not already known has got their suspicions up. Keep an eye on it. Specifically watch the Clintonites hit the airwaves in the next couple of days defending Berger. They don’t want this case to get any more light than it needs.
Bill’s rant on Fox was only a foreshadow to what is to come.
What? You didn’t think the Republicans didn’t have a surprise or two?

2I’ve had serious doubts. republican president, republican congress, and things like this just disappear from sight, while republicans are investigated for any little thing the “loyal opposition” can dream up.

3Mac,
Can you give us any kind of hint of what was in the docs that he took/destroyed?

6BergerSocks is the textbook example that contrasts acceptable Democrat behavior and their MSM enablers with what we deal with everyday on every issue. The MSM played The Silence to perfection.
Someone teach Duncan Hunter to smile and put that man somewhere on a 2008 ticket.

9Recall right after the Path to 9/11 show that someone, I believe Woodward, was being interviewed on Fox, can’t be sure but all I watch is Fox, the person casually revealed the exact papers that Berger stole and which one’s he destroyed. I was casually listening and didn’t get the info, tried to follow up and didn’t have any luck. Could not understand why the Congressional Repub. didn’t go after him. I then read last night that Hunter had a deal with DOJ that Congress would with hold investigation until after the prosecuted. That apparently is completed. Will try and obtain more info

10AJ Strata pointed out a problem, and that is the Democrat/liberal near-monopoly of government jobs.
Add to that ‘norm’ the 1990′s shuffle to ‘loyalists’ in decision-making posts, inside DOJ especially (remember, Janet Reno’s first few moves included calling in resignations from all the US Attorneys and appointing a lot of new replacements — neither Ashcroft nor Mueller reversed it), but in all agencies and bureaus, even the previously completely a-political WH Travel Office.
