War hero yes, served his nation, yes. An idiot, yes.
“Speaking with reporters after his appearance on NBC, Powell said that part of the reason he is supporting Obama is because he did not like the negative tone of John McCain’s campaign, which has noted the links between Obama and domestic terrorist William Ayers.
“It troubled me. We have two wars. We have economic problems, we have health problems. … Those are the problems the American people want to hear about, not about Mr. Ayers, not about who’s a Muslim and not a Muslim. Those kind of images going out on Al Jazeera are killing us around the world,” he said.
“I thought it was over the top. It was beyond just good political fighting back and forth. … We can’t judge our people and we can’t hold our elections on that kind of basis,” he added.
Powell, who described himself as still a Republican, added that he also doesn’t like the McCain camp’s decision to call Obama a socialist because he wants to raise taxes on individuals and businesses making more than $250,000 a year.
“Taxes are always a redistribution of money. Most of the taxes that are redistributed go back to those who pay it — in roads and airports and hospitals and schools — and taxes are necessary for the common good, and there’s nothing wrong with examining what our tax structure is and who should be paying more, who should be paying less. And for us to say that makes you a socialist I think is an unfortunate characterization and is inaccurate,” he said.”
Taxes are NEVER a redistribution of money in the way that Obama has phrased it, and there is everything wrong – in conservatism – in determining who should pay more and who should pay less.
What an absolutely clueless view of the ideologies involved. Additionally, how does he square the dangers of Al Qaeda that will be fought by a Commander in Chief who was comfy with a domestic terrorist and that will somehow make us feel safe?
It’s a good thing we found this out about him now, as he was once touted to be a rising star in the Party. He was never such a thing in my eyes, and now he will be less so in the party at large.
I hope he enjoys his exile.

1I’m not sure why the guy who vouched for an inexperienced guy from Texas eight yrs ago by saying many of the same things is supposed to help an inexperienced guy from Illinois who’s running against an experienced guy the new guy says is just like the last guy. So who’s the real Bush clone?

2It was widley known when he was appointed Sec. of State that Powell was an Affirmative action appointee and he was put in charge of a disfunctional agency that was ignored by the Bush administraton while he was in controll. Bush knew the State dept was saturated with embedded Civil Service protected Clintonistas hired under Algore’s “reinventiing Government plan. ” Both the State Dept and CIA were/are safely in Clinton’s control and for the past 7 years have done their best to undermine and wreck havoc with George Bush’s policies, as proven by the numerous national security leaks from both agencies. . I personally dont’ consider Condolese Rice any better than Powell at the job, but she has done more damage because Bush apparently trusts her.
Powell said he was a Republican when he was asked to take the Sec. of State job. I never thought he was anything but a Democrat. It appears that I was right.

4Powell has gone absolutely nuts.
Marilyn: State and the CIA has been left agencies for a very long time…long before Clinton. They date back decades. Bush couldn’t do a thing about them as Reagan couldn’t do a thing with them because of the ,yes, embedded lefty bureaucrats who are nothing but civil service employees who run both agencies. Dr. Jack Wheeler has a great article and talks at length about both agencies and how to correct them, that article was posted at his website May of last year. He says the only thing that’s left that is truly pro American is our military.
Powell should have remained in the military maybe just maybe he wouldn’t have joined the dark side. He is now smack dab in with the dark evil forces. Hope his son can help old pop come back into the light.

5I once believed that Americans are intelligent. I didn’t know a bunch of them are idiots, a lot of them fake, a still more are greedy. I also believed once that Americans have strong self steem. Where is it now? I am not a voter yet but I am totally disappointed with what is happening in this country. I am not proud to be here. I don’t want to be under a president who don’t have any respect for life.
