Had the events this week happened during say, a Republican administration, the media would have had a field day. If Condi Rice had been Secretary of State the leftwing media would have been calling for her head. Fair enough, then Hillary Clinton should resign immediately.

As it is they did their job deflecting attention away from the incompetence the Obama Administration and specifically Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. This week’s fiasco not only further destabilized the middle east overnight, but it cost the lives of a US Ambassador and three others, including two retired Navy Seals.

So in all fairness to their memory Hillary Clinton more than anything should resign immediately. Coming off the wires today we learn of several incidents of her failure to perform the essential functions of her job – secure embassies and personnel.

“The US consulate in Benghazi, where the US ambassador to Libya died in an attack on Tuesday, was not given the standard security contract offered to many American diplomatic missions in the Middle East, private military contractors have told the BBC.

The consulate’s walls were breached in just 15 minutes, guards were outgunned and overwhelmed and four US personnel were killed, including the Ambassador, J Christopher Stevens.

US embassies and consulates in areas of the world where they are deemed liable to attack are usually offered a formal security contract called a Worldwide Protective Services Agreement, known in the industry as a ‘Wips’.

The contract, or so-called tasking order, is between the US state department and any one of several major private military contractors such as DynCorp International and Aegis Defence Services.

Under this agreement, extensive security precautions are put in place, including low-profile armoured vehicles, run-flat tyres, sufficient weapons, ammunition and trained personnel, as well as a tried and tested command and control system.

But sources have told the BBC that on the advice of a US diplomatic regional security officer, the mission in Benghazi was not given the full contract despite lobbying by private contractors.

Instead, the US consulate was guarded externally by a force of local Libyan militia, many of whom reportedly put down their weapons and fled once the mission came under concerted attack.”

Additionally as I and others have detailed there was advanced intel that attacks would take place and specific threats. The State Department either ignored the warnings or worse missed them. Steven Hayward at Powerline writes.

“The consulate in Benghazi was an interim facility, with only a standard door lock for security, and worse, Ambassador Stevens was traveling with only a light security detail, rather than in the heavily armed convoys our diplomats in the region usually employ. The attack on the Benghazi was no mere target of opportunity spurred by reaction to the “Innocence of Muslims” film; the film is just a pretext. The killing of Amb. Stevens was a premeditated hit, planned and carried out as retaliation for the recent drone strike that killed the number two Al Qaida operative in Afghanistan recently. The vulnerability of Stevens at the Benghazi compound was scouted out carefully. All the other embassy protest activity is just covering theater.”

He also writes that the State Department is in “chaos” right now, not a good thing at all during this hotbed time. Further, according to this, Hillary made the decision not to post Marines at Benghazi.

Hillary Clinton should either be fired or asked to resign. If she had any decency she would step down immediately. This happened on her watch and the consequences her responsibility.
