“Former President Bill Clinton tried to get former senator Ted Kennedy to endorse Hillary Clinton for president in the 2008 election by describing Barack Obama this way: “A few years ago, this guy would have been carrying our bags.”
This anecdote is revealed in a New Yorker article on the relationship between Bill Clinton and Obama:
Tim Russert told me that, according to his sources, Bill Clinton, in an effort to secure an endorsement for Hillary from Ted Kennedy, said to Kennedy, “A few years ago, this guy would have been carrying our bags.”
A different account, but same result from Game Change:
“Bill Clinton helped sink his wife’s chances for an endorsement from Ted Kennedy by belittling Barack Obama as nothing but a race-based candidate.
“A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee,” the former president told the liberal lion from Massachusetts, according to the gossipy new campaign book, “Game Change.”
The book says Kennedy was deeply offended and recounted the conversation to friends with fury.
After Kennedy sided with Obama, Clinton reportedly griped, “the only reason you are endorsing him is because he’s black. Let’s just be clear.”
Which is why so many in America voted for him in the first place – White Guilt. I’ve said many times Barack Obama is the first Affirmative Action President. No qualifications except the color of his skin. But I digress.
Back in 2009 Clinton accused the right of racism for it’s opposition of Obama, so little wonder where they got that theme.
Of course Clinton is giving a keynote address for Obama during the DNC. However, wouldn’t it be grand if he stood up and said what he really thinks of Obama. I mean you wonder why Hillary won’t be anywhere near the DNC, she’ll be all the way over in Russian, about as far as you can get.
I wonder just what Bubba might do. Think it’s payback time?
