I’ve got a sinking feeling. I’ve had it for a while. It’s the feeling that Barack Obama will likely win reelection and we conservatives have no one to blame but ourselves.

I’ve often compared Barack Obama to a football team, losing 30-0 in the forth quarter with 5 minutes left. Doomed right? But dang it anyway the GOP is playing the roll of the Miami Dolphins who have blown five fourth quarter leads this year. No matter what the deficit the Dolphins found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. We’re like that too.

So what’s the problem? It’s a couple of things. First our leadership – for a lack of a better word – sucks. The latest fiasco over extending the tax holiday showed that glaringly. John Boehner made us look like idiots, and McConnell didn’t fare much better. They managed to make Obama look like Santa Clause to their Scrooge. Quite a feat considering Obama’s dismal poll numbers.

But that’s no all what will doom us. The current crop of candidates – supposedly our best for 2012 – are completely unacceptable. Can anyone tell me with a straight face that this is the best we got? Come on Gingrich? Really? Ron Paul could win Iowa? Really? Ron Paul, the GOP’s version of Dennis Kucinich, the “crazy uncle” who blathers on about the Industrial Military Complex and God knows what. I mean does anyone really think Ron Paul has a snowball’s chance in hell of becoming President?

Yeah I know Mitt Romney. Yeah, yeah. I know lots of conservatives love him, but repeat this until your ears bleed. Romney is a democrat at heart. Always has been. Yeah he might have a few conservative ideas, but Romney Care – enough said.

Who does that leave us? Bachmann, Santorium, Rick Perry? Really? Have they got any chance at all?

The GOP hasn’t helped itself having all these so-called debates which have done nothing than to provide clown fodder for the left.

We are in trouble folks, huge trouble. Sure we can hope that Obama stays unpopular and keeps his approvals in the toilet, but Americans can be a fickle bunch and come November looking at match ups against our key front runners I can see the country saying, “Oh what the hell, give the guy another shot.”

I hope I’m wrong, but I’ve got a feeling I’m not.
