So much for “tense moments” that we heard about describing Obama and his people just before the raid to get Bin Laden. Fact is that the Commander in Chief went to bed while our boys awaited the decision whether or not to go in.
“Barack Obama kept military commanders hanging by declaring he would ‘sleep on it’ before taking 16 hours to give the go-ahead to raid Bin Laden’s compound.
Hit squads of specialist Navy Seals – who were not even told who they were preparing to capture – had practised the mission at two reconstructions of the terror chiefs sprawling compound.
The mission looked set to be given the all clear last Thursday when analysts confirmed beyond doubt that Bin Laden was in busy town of Abbottabad in northern Pakistan.
But the president stunned officials when he told a national security meeting that he wanted more time to think – and disappeared out of the room.
‘I’m not going to tell you what my decision is now – I’m going to go back and think about it some more,’ said Obama, according to the New York Times. He then added ‘I’m going to make a decision soon.’The head of the CIA and other senior intelligence officers who were keen to proceed were left tense as they waited for the president’s decision.
But the next morning after 16 hours, Obama summoned four top aides to the White House Diplomatic Room. Before they could speak, the president put his fist on the table and declared ‘It’s a go’.With those three words, the greatest military operation in recent history began. Had it not been for heavy cloud cover on Saturday, troops would have been deployed then.
But they waited another day, and reached Pakistan just before midnight on Sunday evening. Obama refused to tell Pakistan about the mission in case it was leaked by jihadist sympathisers within the administration and Bin Laden took flight.
We are most glad that Obama’s indecision didn’t lead to a mission failure as it did in 1979 when President Carter hemmed and hawed and got our guys killed because of a piss-poor plan.
The inability to make quick and decisions is a leadership flaw that Obama has all too many times shown in the heat of the moment. Thank God it didn’t cost us the mission this time around.

1Mac, we are in the hands of the most incompetent, inept president in our modern history.
But I would point a few things out to you: if you look at the photo taken in the “situation” room, Hillary has her hand over her mouth as if worried, Gates looks pensive like a general who is running a mission from Command Central, Joe Biden, well, Joe looks as clueless as ever. But Obama, he looks angry.
And why is Obama sitting in a chair off to the side of the General when Hillary, Gates and Biden are are sitting at the adult’s table? You will note, Obama is still in his golf garb.
What kind of man can go golfing when he knows that he has sent 40 U.S. Navy SEALs into the belly of the beast? One cold fish, that’s who. Unless the rumors are right and it was Panetta that really kicked this mission off the ground and then notified Obama it was going on when he pulled Obama off the golf course. Guess that would explain Obama’s still being in golf clothes and the angry look on his face.
And that would tell us that Obama is not really in charge. He is a figure head, a facade, someone who gives great [teleprompter] speeches but does not govern. Meanwhile, Michelle Antoinette shops in two states (traveling on the taxpayer dime is soooo much fun).
I would like your opinion. Do you really think Obama was running the show? If so, how the hell could he golf knowing we could lose Navy SEALs in a mission that could possibly go terribly wrong?
