As readers know I’ve been calling the Lack of sync ability in Office 2011 was a “design flaw”.
Actually it was a “DesignED Flaw”
According to sources with knowledge of the workings of the team that worked on Office 2011 for Mac, the decision to not include sync services was planned, not as the Mac Business Unit is selling it – an issue of programing difficulty.
Why? Simple. First Outlook 2011 syncs only with Exchange Server 2007 and above. MBU claims that research shows most Mac users are dependent on Exchange for email and calendar. An absurb notion as anyone with knowledge of the Macintosh base knows.
Most users of Macs sync with iCal, Google and depend on keeping up to date by syncing to their iPhones or iPods. Neither of which is possible with Outlook 2011.
Well that tells you all you need to know. Microsoft has just released a slew of Windows Mobile 7 devices that are to compete directly with – you guessed it, Google’s Android and Apple’s iPhone.
The majority of Apple users use either Android or Apple iPhones. Microsoft may well be guilty of purposely crippling the suite in order to force users over to Windows Mobile 7 and Exchange.
According to two sources a class action lawsuit is now in preparation to be filed in Southern California from distressed users of Office 2011 who paid over $300 for a program that apparenly has been purposely disabled.
Microsoft has not responded to email asking for comment.
