As you know, I’ve been covering the backlash against Microsoft for the failure to include sync services for Outlook in their new Office 2011 suite.
Now according to information received tonight a group of Mac users including two attorney’s are considering filing a class action suit for deceptive advertising.
I believe they might have a case based on the fact that Microsoft is selling the suite as “better and more capable” than it’s previous Entourage mail client. However that’s not true as Entourage did have sync services included.
According to Richard Kmieciak of the Mac Business unit.
“As we continue to develop Outlook for Mac, we’re taking a phased approach to ensure we are delivering reliable, high quality scenarios with Sync Services. In Outlook 14.0, the release arriving this month, you’ll find sync support for your contacts through Sync Services (Exchange users have full sync support for their content). We do understand that Calendar sync is important and are working on it now. It will be available in a free update to Outlook for Mac 2011 and we will keep you posted on timing.”
This may prove to be all that is needed in winning the suit. Imagine a car company that sells a car without brakes and says “It’s too hard to implement, but buy our product now and we’ll fix it.”
Of course the best thing is not to buy Office 2011 at all. I recommended readers don’t basically because I find the arrogance astounding.
