I wrote back here that according to the Bible “litmus” test Obama may not be a “Christian” in the pure Bible sense. Indeed he couldn’t be. Ann Coulter in her article, “Obama is Not a Muslim, he is an Atheist”:

“The only evidence for Obama’s Christianity is that he faithfully attended the Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ for 20 years.

Yes, the guy bellowing “God damn America!” is the one vouching for Obama’s Christianity. That’s like saying you got sober with the help of your A.A. sponsor Lindsay Lohan.

It is a fact that any non-retarded person (thank you, Rahm Emanuel!) sitting in the Rev. Wright’s church for 20 minutes, much less 20 years, does not believe in God. Even stepping inside Wright’s church for a moment to get out of the rain is borderline racist.

Going to Trinity United Church of Christ is even stronger evidence of nonbelief than Bill Clinton returning from Sunday services to receive oral sex from Monica Lewinsky. This isn’t mere sin — everybody sins (though some with more frequency and less remorse than others).

Attending Wright’s church is the conscious, calculated decision to immerse yourself in hate-filled demagoguery and call it “Christianity.”

But according to North Korean TV’s Chris Matthews, it is a provable, scientific fact that Obama is a Christian because he says so. “Everybody watching right now,” Matthews said to his several viewers last week, “gets credit for being of the religion you say you are. … We accept that in America. It’s called freedom of religion and respect for religion.”

Well Matthews is wrong. First the term “Christian” is a “non-believers” term, given by them of the first century believers of Christ to explain their behavior thus “Christ’s People”. This was of course based on association with the group, but it didn’t necessarily make everyone of the group a “Christian”.

However as the Bible commonly does it gives us a greater definition. The Apostle Paul wrote: ” if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.” (Romans 8:9). Now this isn’t about having “team spirit”, like at a football game. It’s about having the actual Spirit of God living in you. As Christ while on earth lived by the indwelling Spirit, the agency by which “The Father in me He does the Works” (John 14:10). So that even Christ didn’t ascribe his identity as Son of God by simply saying so, he ascribed it by the evidence that His Father works done through him.

So that a “Christian” isn’t someone who sits in a “Church” on the corner of “Walk and Don’t Walk” or even in Jeremiah Wright’s presence. It’s someone who has the actual Spirit of God living in him and that can only happen by a genuine conversion to Christ and as Jesus coined it, “a new birth”.

Again, the only way you know whether from the outside whether someone is “In Christ” and that “Christ is in them” is by the evidence of those works which Christ does through them. “”You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they?” Matthew 7:16.

The lesson here is that a fake Christian can no more produce Christ’s fruit than a thorn bush can produce figs. Why? Because they are not native one to the other. The source of the fig is the Vine that acts through the branches. “”I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)

So how does Obama do by his “fruit”? That’s for everyone to judge. But from what we’ve seen so far, his fruit appears rotten.
