Indeed!

“The last time a Democrat sat in the White House, he faced a nonstop witch hunt by his political opponents. Prominent figures on the right accused Bill and Hillary Clinton of everything from drug smuggling to murder. And once Republicans took control of Congress, they subjected the Clinton administration to unrelenting harassment — at one point taking 140 hours of sworn testimony over accusations that the White House had misused its Christmas card list.

Now it’s happening again — except that this time it’s even worse. Let’s turn the floor over to Rush Limbaugh: “Imam Hussein Obama,” he recently declared, is “probably the best anti-American president we’ve ever had.”

To get a sense of how much it matters when people like Mr. Limbaugh talk like this, bear in mind that he’s an utterly mainstream figure within the Republican Party; bear in mind, too, that unless something changes the political dynamics, Republicans will soon control at least one house of Congress. This is going to be very, very ugly.

So where is this rage coming from? Why is it flourishing? What will it do to America?

Anyone who remembered the 1990s could have predicted something like the current political craziness. What we learned from the Clinton years is that a significant number of Americans just don’t consider government by liberals — even very moderate liberals — legitimate. Mr. Obama’s election would have enraged those people even if he were white. Of course, the fact that he isn’t, and has an alien-sounding name, adds to the rage.”

Well Mr. Krugman, actually, America has rejected liberalism, more exact the progressive movement, for a lot longer than your selective memory cares to remember. Which is why poll after poll finds that the majority of Americans are conservative in their views, and why it shows consistently that we are a right of center nation. Always have been, always will be. By the way it’s also why the Ny Times and it’s liberal editorial bent is struggling to keep readers. But I digress.

But to this “witch hunt”. Krugman must have been asleep during the 2000s. The vehement show by the left outweighed anything the right mustered up – rightly so -against Clinton in the 90s or even Obama now. Since Democrats have been in power they have launched hundreds of investigations, more than any administration in a long time, most of them a complete waste of taxpayer money, and most of them during the last two years of Bush’s term.

Krugman himself called for unending investigations into the Bush years and cried foul when Obama said he wouldn’t go down that road.

Of course Krugman has no problem with hauling up Global Warming critics and calling them “traitors” and suggesting even more investigations into those who would stop the religion that Gore discovered from going forward!

The fact is that there may be plenty for a new GOP led congress to look at when and if they take power. Even if they don’t their voice will be decidedly louder. But in America we allow these things because we are a nation that can take it. I didn’t like it when Waxman and his cohorts chomped at the bit to go after Bush/Cheney, but in America they have a right – and duty – to investigate what they feel is wrong about the country. Whether they find anything or not, and that’s the point of waste that should be addressed, the fact is that such oversight preserves the checks and balances.

The Krugmans of this word feel that should only be the case when their side isn’t on the investigative end. That’s a Kettle Black!
