Five years ago Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans. It also – although you wouldn’t know it – devastated other areas in Alabama and Mississippi. Today Obama finally comes off vacation to – you guess it – fan the flames of percieved racial injustice.

As you know I was blogging during Katrina, archieves here. I wrote a much linked article here as well “A Defining Hypocrisy“.

Michelle Malkin has an excellent article up on this and the false and dishonest racism angle the liberal media continues to ride to this day.

Katrina wasn’t about racism, it was a disaster. A human disaster, which by the way repeats daily across the globe. We do an injustice to politicize such a disaster. I wept when I saw the pictures of the suffering of those people. The dead and dying, the children left homeless. One would have to be an animal not to feel nothing but sadness of what that day brought to the people of the Gulf, fellow Americans all.

But the left continues to try to make political points on that suffering to this day. That’s abhorrent. Forgetting that the majority of those who had control over responding to the disaster were in fact liberal democrats, yet nevertheless there was more than enough blame to go around.

So what? Let’s remember on this day those who lost their lives. The culture of New Orleans that suffered as well. But more than anything lets hope and pray that such a disaster never happens again.

Michelle writes about how the media and the liberal establishment have desecrated the memory of those who have perished by continuing to try to make political points. Shame on them.

It’s a good read and a solid indictment.
