After watching the entirety of the Obamacare infomercial it was evident that the GOP came to win and win they did. David Gergan , a so-called “conservative pundit”, who hasn’t had a good thing to say about Republicans, said, “Republicans had their best day in years”.
Of course truth on their side had a lot to do with it. One of the main points being bantered around is whether health insurance premiums would rise if Obamacare were passed. The CBO -which both sides quoted, said, “It depends” on whether you’re in a group plan or not. But here’s a tip for you. Speaking with a anonymous gentlemen who is a senior sales director for Blue Cross of Florida he told me if this is passed premiums WILL rise simple because the legislation will allow it Most of this will come because of the prohibition against pre-existing conditions – insurance companies will simply cite higher risks. Secondly nothing in the legislation will prohibit pricing based on “risk factors”, something which is used today, but with as much impact because of the pre-existing condition clause.
He told me that his company – Blue Cross is already raising rates 30-45% in anticipation of the passage of Obamacare – citing the additional risk factor. “No matter what they say now, NO ONE can stop us from raising rates to cover costs – period”, “It’s business”.
Of course Dems – in spite of public disapproval – are going to shove Obamacare down America’s throat. In fact the Politico reports that they’re going for the Nuclear Option next week, although whether they’ll have enough votes for that is doubtful at this point. After today whatever support Dems hoped to get from this “summit”, was essentially lost. Obama didn’t win any new hearts – incoherent as he is communicating his vision – and indeed I believe he lost even more support.
