Sarah Palin FoxYet another poll, this time from ABC/WP, with a decidedly slanted democratic/african american demographic (thanks Frank), which purports to show that a majority of Americans don’t think that she’s qualified to be President.   But isn’t that a silly question anyway?   I believe so, partially because it’s a forgone conclusion at this point that neither was Barack Obama, and we’ve seen that demonstrably proved true.

It’s a long time until November 2012 and Palin hasn’t even thrown her hat in the ring.  The fact that the MSM has run about a hundred polls asking this question in the last year shows that 1) They don’t believe the results, 2) They’re trying to create a picture of unelectability.

Both are wrong of course as the Sarah Palin book and media tours have shown.   She pulls more figures per appearance than any other GOP candidate, and generates far more excitement.

But back to the question of qualifications.  Again, the media played this game back in 2008 laughingly comparing Palin to Obama in the experience question and laughingly trying to tell America that Obama whipped her in that regard.  This with a completely sparse Senate record and no experience in governing.  There was never a question that at least in that regard Palin whipped Obama.

But for argument’s sake, let’s say that Obama had more experience.  So what?  Look at the wreck he’s made of the economy?  How about the country in general.   We haven’t been in this much disarray since, well, Carter.  By the way let’s not forget those polls in regard to the “more qualified” Mr. Obama, where they hover in the mid 40s on his favorability, so much for being more experienced.

Interestingly enough back in January of 2008, long before Pain entered the political stage, Time Magazine wonder if experience really meant anything, noting that many of the country’s presidents had no really prior governing experience.   For many, such as JFK and the Bay of Pigs fiasco it showed.  For others such as Reagan they shined.   But in most cases prior experience gave little to no indication of the job performance to come as President.

If the media were honest, and that’s a question in itself, it would admit that they continually ask the question not because it’s relevant – it’s not, but because it’s about Sarah Palin.  That in itself is the larger question.
