We who survived have Veteran’s Day, for those who gave the greatest sacrifice there is Memorial Day. Today much of our thoughts on on those who have lost their lives on the War on Terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. This blog created a Google Map showing the hometowns of the fallen in Iraq and Afghanistan, 5,679, a surprisingly respectful effort.
But let’s not forget that there has never been an American conflict of this size with such a low casualty rate. Note the Korean war, two years short of this conflict in wich 33,741 died. This is an incredible statement of the professionalism and success of our troops and the efforts on the GWOT (Yes, I’m still calling it that).
The media over the course of this war proved themselves a propaganda arm of the enemy by shamelessly reporting “benchmarks” only to express political points, never to honor the dead. As a veteran I can say, “Go to hell”, keep your bias to yourself, your “memorials” are not welcome on my TV or in my house.
To compare here are the casualties from other wars we’ve fought for whose sacrifice we also remember.
WWI – 53,402
WWII – 291,557
Vietnam – 47,424.
On this day as many on the antiwar left gloat over the deaths, we true Americans remember the sacrifice and yes the victory that they won for us.
