SEOUL, South Korea — Former President Roh Moo-hyun of South Korea, who had been under criminal investigation for corruption, died on Saturday from a fall while hiking on a hill near his retirement home, the police said.
Mr. Roh, 62, fell off a cliff while hiking in Bongha, a village near the southeast corner of South Korea, said Park Chan-jo, a police officer in Busan, the largest city in the region. Mr. Roh was accompanied by an aide during his morning hike.
Mr. Roh sustained fatal head injuries and was taken to a Busan university hospital, Mr. Park said.
Mr. Park said it was unclear whether the fall was accidental or whether Mr. Roh had committed suicide. Yonhap, the national news agency, reported that Mr. Roh left a will, indicating that the death might have been a suicide.
I’m watching it with the wife on Korean TV, and they are confirming the suicide. Roh’s wife was set to give a testimony today, and this might have been him just saving a lot of people a whole lot of trouble.
