First, I’m not condoning any unethical behavior of Steele – if there was any that the Washington Post reports on. Indeed it appears that there is nothing more than just rumors at this point. But how the Post got the story is of greater concern. It appears that someone at the U.S. Attorney’s Office broke the law.

“The U.S. attorney’s office inadvertently sent the confidential document, a defense sentencing memorandum filed under seal, to The Washington Post after the newspaper requested the prosecution’s sentencing memorandum.”

There is no way the file was sent “inadvertently”. There is a precise chain of custody on sealed documents. If the post got it then it was designed that the Post receive it. The question is now “who did it”.

There needs to be an investigation. Specially I’m asking via letter that Republican Senate Judicial Committee call for such an investigation.
