Hope and Change. This time a change of scenery for Al al-Shihri – from Gitmo to Yemen – has worked change in our national security.
“BEIRUT, Lebanon — The emergence of a former Guantánamo Bay detainee as the deputy leader of Al Qaeda’s Yemeni branch has underscored the potential complications in carrying out the executive order President Obama signed Thursday that the detention center be shut down within a year.
The militant, Said Ali al-Shihri, is suspected of involvement in a deadly bombing of the United States Embassy in Yemen’s capital, Sana, in September. He was released to Saudi Arabia in 2007 and passed through a Saudi rehabilitation program for former jihadists before resurfacing with Al Qaeda in Yemen.
His status was announced in an Internet statement by the militant group and was confirmed by an American counterterrorism official.
“They’re one and the same guy,” said the official, who insisted on anonymity because he was discussing an intelligence analysis. “He returned to Saudi Arabia in 2007, but his movements to Yemen remain unclear.”
The development came as Republican legislators criticized the plan to close the Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, detention camp in the absence of any measures for dealing with current detainees. But it also helps explain why the new administration wants to move cautiously, taking time to work out a plan to cope with the complications.
Almost half the camp’s remaining detainees are Yemenis, and efforts to repatriate them depend in part on the creation of a Yemeni rehabilitation program — partly financed by the United States — similar to the Saudi one. Saudi Arabia has claimed that no graduate of its program has returned to terrorism.
“The lesson here is, whoever receives former Guantánamo detainees needs to keep a close eye on them,” the American official said.”
Well it won’t be a problem as I’m sure as the detainees will be delivered amongst the US populace, and and we know that Rep. Jack Murtha – speaking for his constituency – couldn’t be happier!

1Mac, come on, now, The One has the problem of the Gitmo prisoners solved, almost.
It is rumored that since William Ayers and Bernadette Dohrn’s children are grown and they have a couple of empty spare bedrooms. It seems that William Ayers, who believes in redemption, will take four if the terrorists are willing to double up. He has also agreed to help them get their teaching certificates so that the terrorists can move quickly move into the “mainstream” of society. It is not yet known if he and Bernadette will be able to teach them to sing “White Rabbit” in Arabic.
Also, Rashid Khalidi will take some and since Louis Farrakhan has some nice digs to place a number of terrorists in, they will house at least another eight. This is an exceptionally good plan since both will be familiar with correct Islamic foods and already have a supply of Qur’ans on hand, saving on expenses.
Then we have the “Adopt A Terrorist” program for those Americans who are willing to help Obama acheive his goals of community service. But it will not be easy, and those who do join the program will have to “sacrifice”, first starting with making sure that all toilets in their homes do not force the user to face Mecca, that arrows toward Mecca are drawn in every room, the women of the household are willing to don the “Burka” system of dress and not speak unless they are allowed to by the adopted terrorist. Any signs of anything Christian will have to be removed from the home, and a time to share the company of their young daughters and sons with the terrorist will have to be set up in advance. An ardent hatred for fellow Americans is not required, but it is encouraged to join the program.
See? Problem solved.
