Flashy, flamboyant and yeah,ignorant
“WASHINGTON – Unemployment is up. The stock market is down. Let’s party.
The price tag for President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration gala is expected to break records, with some estimates reaching as high as $150 million. Despite the bleak economy, however, Democrats who called on President George W. Bush to be frugal four years ago are issuing no such demands now that an inaugural weekend of rock concerts and star-studded parties has begun.
Obama’s inaugural committee has raised more than $41 million to cover events ranging from a Philadelphia-to-Washington train ride to a megastar concert with Beyonce, U2 and Bruce Springsteen to 10 official inaugural balls. Add to that the massive costs of security and transportation — costs absorbed by U.S. taxpayers — and the historic inauguration will produce an equally historic bill.
In 2005, Reps. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., and Jim McDermott, D-Wash., asked Bush to show a little less pomp and be a little more circumspect at his party.
“President Roosevelt held his 1945 inaugural at the White House, making a short speech and serving guests cold chicken salad and plain pound cake,” the two lawmakers wrote in a letter. “During World War I, President Wilson did not have any parties at his 1917 inaugural, saying that such festivities would be undignified.”
The thinking was that, with the nation at war, excessive celebration was inappropriate. Four years later, the nation is still at war. Unemployment has risen sharply. And Obama pressed Congress to release the second half of a $700 billion bailout package in hopes of rescuing a faltering banking industry.
Obama’s inauguration committee says it is mindful of the times and is not worried people will see the four days of festivities as excessive.
“That is probably not the way the country is going to be looking at it,” said committee spokeswoman Linda Douglass. “It is not a celebration of an election. It is a celebration of our common values.”
No, it’s hypocrisy, classless, and oh so inappropriate for the times.
Michelle Malkin notes the “Pomp and circumstance have been replaced with pimp and self-aggrandizement — all topped with a heapful of double standards.”
Yeah, Pimpy and Pricey.

2I can’t help but think all glitz relates to racial undertones. We have heard all about the obvious fact Obama is African-American. I thought this election was about who is the BEST canidate. If this 4 day party is 150 million dollars, what is Michelle going to spend redecorationg the white house? Do any of these people care that shelters for families without homes are closing on a regular basis because they don’t have funds. Guess who is to blame for that? People who don’t worry about having food for their children or shelter, or the elderly who can’t keep their houses warm because they have no money!!! If this is change let’s all get ready to do without some more so Washington the “haves” can throw a big 4 day party, While the “have nots” foot the damn bill!!!!When are the stimulus checks coming to the people who are losing everything because of government splurging and wallstreet deception. I believe that was a campaign promise. Is this really change or more politics. Let’s re-elect Bill Clinton or hire Hillary. I’m appalled at this whole thing, guess we will have to wait at least 4 more days. Can I take my vote back??

3In these tough times with so many Americans out of work and barely able to feed their families, and the economy the way it is, how does our President-elect justify this price tag, and yes I myself and many others do see this as excessive and inappropriate.

4I also think this is hypocritical of the man wanting to bring change. The only change I see is more people doing without, to pay for his party. What does he know about cutting back, or anything like that; when do lawyers or senators live on minimum wage? Why couldn’t he have done a smaller party like Bush Sr., Clinton and Bush Jr; then used the extra money to pay the mortgages on the homes of hundreds! Most of the people who voted for him, will NEVER see one million, and he is spending it a hundred fold, and he has not been in office yet. I am glad I did not vote for him, and I think more would wish that they had not voted for him, before the 4 yrs are up!
