Not really.

“WASHINGTON (AP) – Former Secretary of State Colin Powell has endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president, describing the Illinois senator as a “transformational figure.”
Powell says both Obama and Republican John McCain are qualified to be commander in chief. But, in an interview Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” he said Obama is better suited to handle the nation’s economic problems as well as help improve it’s standing in the world.

Powell expressed disappointment in the negative tone of McCain’s campaign, as well as in his choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as the Republican vice presidential nominee. Powell says he does not believe Palin is ready to take over as president, if necessary ”

And Obama does and from what that Palin hasn’t eclipsed?  Would have been my followup, but I’m not surprised.  He’s been a thorn in our efforts since before the 2004 election when all those surprising anonymous “tip” flowed from the State Department to embarssass the Administration. His “insurrection” led to Andy Card asking for his resignation.

Note also Powell’s words match verbatim the Obama campaign’s talking points on the “standing in the world” and the “economy”.

You’ll remember that in February he had told a group of students that electing a black president would be “electrifying“? That led to preliminary talks with campaign officials who – yes – offered him a position in the coming administration.

Side note, Powell appeared at Senator Ted Stevens corruption trial as a character witness and gave testimony that he trust Stevens completely and “As we say in the infantry, this is a guy you take on a long patrol”

Yeah, on a bridge to nowhere. Tells you everything you want to know about his endorsement of Obama.
