FACT CHECK: Democrats Failed to Act on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

Part Two of the Fox News Special on the Democrats inaction in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007 which led to the bailout of Fannie and Freddie.

Experts agree that if action had been taken back then we wouldn’t be were we are at today. Voters outraged at picking up the bill for this travesty of a bailout should remember this next month.

Mac–

There’s something being overlooked about the democrats argument that republicans have controlled congress over the last 8 years and as a result it’s their fault that we are in the economic crisis we are in.

Aside from that not being true, might I remind you and your readers that democrats did control the senate starting back in 2001.

This from CNN: “Sen. James Jeffords of Vermont left the Republican Party as expected Thursday, becoming an independent and throwing control of the Senate to the Democratic Party for the first time since 1994.”–May 2001

So the argument isn’t just weak, it’s wrong.
