Just got back into town and the place is crawling with DHS vehicles and air support. Here what happened:

“One Miami-Dade police officer was killed and three others were injured Thursday after trying to stop a vehicle that was driving erratically, authorities said.

A large manhunt was underway for the suspect, identified as Kevin Wehner, 30, who was last seen driving a white Honda Accord, police spokeswoman Cmdr. Linda O’Brien said.

O’Brien said the officers were apparently shot by a high-powered weapon shortly before noon in the area of SW 280th Street and SW 143rd Court.

The shootings followed two other officers’ shootings last month in neighboring Broward County. One was killed, the other was badly injured.

O’Brien said the officers were conducting a burglary surveillance detail in the neighborhood when they tried to stop the car. The driver got out and started shooting, then jumped back in the vehicle and fled.”

Those I’ve talked to described the suspect’s weapon as “Ak-47″ like and like I said DHS is on the scene but no one is referencing a possible terror related angle yet. As you know another incident occurred in Dearborn Park and the suspect is in custody. That case is being considered terrorism related. Of course no clue as of yet whether they are related, but we are having more and more incidents such as this and something major spooked this suspect to open up on four officers with intent to kill, I doubt it was outstanding parking violations.
I’ll update as more is known about this suspect and the incident.

UPDATE:  Four hours of searching Рwrong guy.

“A Margate man was named as a suspect in a shooting that left one Miami-Dade police officer dead and three others wounded Thursday.

A large manhunt was underway for the suspect, identified as Shawn Sherwin Labeet, 25, who was last seen driving a 2007 four-door black Pontiac Vibe with a woman and two children in central Broward County, said police spokeswoman Cmdr. Linda O’Brien.

State driving records indicate Labeet’s last address was in Margate.”

Cops were thrown off because Labeet had stolen Wehner’s ID, and when he saw his face on CNN and local news he went to the Jacksonville Police and straightened it out. ¬† Again, no defined homeland threat and DHS is assisting only in aide to local authorities.
