Posted by MacRanger as 2008 Election, Fred Thompson, Republican Debates
Late night covering the debate and two radio segments, but here’s my recap of thoughts on last night’s Republican Debates.
First the winner. In my mind Giulliani, but according to exit interviews with NH voters on a Fox Segment afterwards the winner was (cough) McCain. I will agree that John McCain did a good job except that it appears it may be a little too late. Meanwhile Romney’s seemingly indecision about the surge (apparently working?) is killing him. He needs tell us one way or another what he thinks and stop playing “candidate” and answering question as such - neither “for” or “against”.
Ron Paul was a howl. This guy wants to dismantle the CIA, DHS and talks about the Presidency having “too much power” all in the same breath. Too bad with all his left wing ’shadow’ support he’ll be around for a while.
As for the rest, well, I think you start to see Brownback, Hunter and Tancredo fade out. When you look at them on the debates they less and less like viable candidates and more like “accessories”. Mike Huckabee however looks strong but he needs to drop that “racist” crap over immigration. Just because you are “borders first” doesn’t make you a “racist”, and point of fact so long as we have this rhetoric on both sides of the issue nothing will get down.
Now on to Fred Thomspon who “finally” dropped his hat on Leno last night. Like the actor he is he had to have “center stage” and therefore upstage all the other candidates by choosing Lean over Chris Wallace. Now that he is in we’ll perhaps begin to see what he is all about without the three minute sound-bites and standing in for Paul Harvey (my favorite).
The big deal to watch is now where the polls head after this announcement.¬†¬† Many feel that Thompson waited too long and should have declared back in July after his trouncing of Michael Moore.¬† Others think he was smarter to wait.¬†¬† We’ll see, but one thing for sure the race is going to get very interesting from this point on.

2Yep….FOX said McCain won. Not with me because I know his political history. From a man that almost had my vote in 2000 to such a dang pain in the azzz, sore loser that jabbed Bush over and over and would not even let him pass anything…..until…McCain got his disasterous ‘reform’ through. He pouted. He labeled the USA and in particular, Bush, as a torturer. He insisted. He jabbed, mouthed and generally made Rummy’s life a hell with his soundbites.
So all I could hear was him patting himself on the back with his ‘correct’ policy and that he would never torture, unlike Bush. I can’t tolerate his Ego. Btw, my topper was when he toyed with being Kerry’s VP. Since I had him in my bug jar, I watched him struggle with that one. Almost to convention time, he was going on Hardball and defending his good friend, Kerry.
All that said, if he is the nominee, I vote McCain vs any Traitor Surrendercrat. I may respect his war history but I do not have to like him anymore. If a miracle happened and he was our President, tape will appear and shut my mouth. Swear.
Why is that Nutty Paul on the stage? He does not even appear to recognize that he is at the wrong debate. He should have joined his twin in Syria.
