This might just be another BS moment at the Kos - they’ve had so many of them I’ve lost count. But if this is legit we just had a serious breach of national security.
“I have a friend who is an LSO on a carrier attack group that is planning and staging a strike group deployment into the Gulf of Hormuz. (LSO: Landing Signal Officer- she directs carrier aircraft while landing) She told me we are going to attack Iran. She said that all the Air Operation Planning and Asset Tasking are finished. That means that all the targets have been chosen, prioritized, and tasked to specific aircraft, bases, carriers, missile cruisers and so forth.
I asked her why she is telling me this. Her answer was really amazing.….”I know this will sound crazy coming from a Naval officer”, she said. “But we‚Äôre all just waiting for this administration to end. Things that happen at the senior officer level seem more and more to happen outside of the purview of XOs and other officers who typically have a say-so in daily combat and flight operations. Today, orders just come down from the mountaintop and there‚Äôs no questioning. In fact, there is no discussing it. I have seen more than one senior commander disappear and then three weeks later we find out that he has been replaced. That‚Äôs really weird. It‚Äôs also really weird because everyone who has disappeared has questioned whether or not we should be staging a massive attack on Iran.”"We‚Äôre not stupid. Most of the members of the fleet read well enough to know what is going on world-wise. We also realize that anyone who has any doubts is in danger of having a long military career yanked out from under them. Keep in mind that most of the people I serve with are happy to be a part of the global war on terror. It‚Äôs just that the touch points are what we see since we are the ones out here who are supposedly implementing this grand strategy. But when you liason with administration officials who don‚Äôt know that Iranians don‚Äôt speak Arabic and have no idea what Iranians live like, then you start having second thoughts about whether these Administration officials are even competent.”
“I asked her about the attack, how limited and so forth.
“I don‚Äôt think it‚Äôs limited at all. We are shipping in and assigning every damn Tomahawk we have in inventory. I think this is going to be massive and sudden, like thousands of targets. I believe that no American will know when it happens until after it happens. And whatever the consequences, whatever the consequences, they will have to be lived with. I am sure if my father knew I was telling someone in a news organization that we were about to launch a supposedly secret attack that it would be treason. But something inside me tells me to tell it anyway.”
I asked her why she was suddenly so cynical.
“I have become cynical only recently. I also don‚Äôt believe anyone will be able to stop this. Bush has become something of an Emperor. He will give the command, and cruise missiles will fly and aircraft will fly and people will die, and yet few of us here are really able to cobble together a great explanation of why this is a good idea. Of course many of us can give you the 4H Club lecture on democracy in the Mid East. But if you asked any of the flight officers whether they have a clear idea of what the goal of this strike is, your answer would sound like something out of a think tank policy paper. But it‚Äôs not like Kosovo or when we relieved the tsunami victims. There everyone could tell you in a sentence what we were here doing.”
“That‚Äôs what‚Äôs missing. A real sense of purpose. What‚Äôs missing is the answer to what the hell are we doing out here threatening this country with all this power? Last night in the galley, an ensign asked what right do we have to tell a sovereign nation that they can‚Äôt build a nuke. I mean the table got EF Hutton quiet. Not so much because the man was asking a question that was off culture. But that he was asking a good question. In fact, the discussion actually followed afterwards topside where someone in our group had to smoke a cigarette. The discussion was intelligent but also in lowered voices. It‚Äôs like we aren‚Äôt allowed to ask the questions that we always ask before combat. It‚Äôs almost as if the average seaman or soldier is doing all the policy work.”
She had to hang up. She left by telling me that she believes the attack is a done deal. “It‚Äôs only a matter of time before their orders come and they will be sent to station and told to go to Red Alert. She said they were already practicing traps, FARP and FAST.” (Trapping is the act of catching the tension wires when landing on the carrier, FARP is Fleet Air Combat Maneuvering Readiness Program- practice dogfighting- and FAST is Fleet Air Superiority Training).
She seemed lost. The first time in my life I have ever heard her sound off rhythm, or unsure of why she is doing something. She knows that there is something rotten in the Naval Command and she, like many of her associates are just hoping that the election brings in someone new, some new situation, or something.
“Yes. We’re gong to hit Iran, bigtime. Whatever political discussion that are going in is window dressing and perhaps even a red herring. I see what’s going on below deck here in the hangars and weapons bays. And I have a sick feeling about how it’s all going to turn out.”
I passed this post on to the ONI AG - Office of Naval Intelligence AG to have a look-see and see if they can find this young lady - if she exists and have a chat. An active duty officer on a ship preparing for operations giving out the op plans to said operation is called - treason.
Again, considering the source (Kos), buyer beware, but if true the poster who goes by the name “Maccabee” - will be having some visitors.
UPDATE:¬† As you all know I’m former Army, not Navy.¬† As such I wouldn’t know starboard from bow. As I said in the beginning it’s mostly likely BS. ¬† Neptunus Lex, seemingly a Navy type takes the story apart as have others.

1One thing that sticks out real big in this story is calling it a galley. Officers eat in the Wardroom and I have done shipboard and shipyard work upgrading Wardrooms.
They have serving stations similar to a buffet restruant not the cattle car serving lines like the enlisted do.
In fact on a super carrier, E-5 and below eat on the general Mess Decks area, E-6 eat in the First Class Lounge, but get their food at the same serving line.
All the CPO’s eat and are served in the Chief’s Mess.
So that makes you wonder about the whole story.
Never had much contact with them, but I believe all LSO’s are commissioned officers with flight qualifications. But I may be wrong on that.

3Mac, while there may be little or no substance to this, it is always wise to rule on the side of caution.
If this is a LSO, she is spewing her guts because she feels she is in her comfort zone over at Kos. Or a total idiot. There is no way if this is picked up that Maccabee is not going to get a visit from the men in dark suits and ear pieces. If she is for real, she can kiss her ass goodby along with her career and should be making her book list she wants to read as she will spend a lot of time in the brig.

4Just read the Kos post. Maccabee gives waaaaay too much information on his friend so she will be easily tracked. There are not that many LSOs who have made the transfer from the Marine Corp to the Navy.
Her career is toast. Bye, bye Navy, hello brig.

5The only way the post could work is the description of the leaker is totally bogus and could be anywhere in the system.
I mean what’s the odds of a marine/navy lso on a current carrier.
Lso’s come out of the squadrons in the attached airgroup.
Nope sounds like someone is talking to Scott Beauchamp or is doing a fine imitation.
If the id was true it would take about 2 minutes on the right terminal to nail the lady.
Just am not buying it.

6The only female LSO I can find is an enlisted CPO on the BonHomme Richard.
Were talking choppers and harriers here.
The whole F-18 stuff in the story is crap.

8Sounds like someone with a little knowledge of Navy Ops and a need for attention. It’s probably a fake like many Kos stories. ” I have seen more than one senior commander disappear and then three weeks later we find out that he has been replaced”
Yeah … right. These people always can’t resist exaggerating to the hilt.

9My guess is it’s coming from that turd…Wayne Mansen…he’s a real goof ball, former Naval Officer of some type…hates the Bush administration…has sources where he gets classified info..and undercover passes it on. So using a fake officer and a women on top of that to cover his ass, sounds just like him.

10I don’t believe this is real. These kinds of strikes are completely pointless and meaningless, they achieve nothing except to bolster the regime and increase terrorism.
If the US isn’t going in to topple the regime (which they just don’t have the resources for) then they should leave well alone.
Besides Iran isn’t Iraq, they have a decent air force and missile defence systems. Any attack would result in losses and I am sure that the Iranians would really make a meal out of any captured service men.

14It’s no surprise that there are serial liars and embellishers on the interwebs. What should be noted is that their lies and embellishments can be utterly transparent and repetitive, and yet be accepted as fact time and again by the audience for whom they confirm basic prejudices. Take, for example, one pseudonymous fellow at DailyKos who goes by “Maccabee.” He claimed to meet a Romanian cabbie who told him to leave Bush’s tyrannical America; he claimed to meet a Holocaust survivor who told him that Bush’s America resembles Nazi Germany; he claimed to meet another cabbie, Ugandan this time, who told him that Bush’s America is worse than Idi Amin’s Uganda

20Mean while the HuffPo has a story up today about air traffic controllers.
I guess they can also read the odds makers in Vegas who say we are overdue by a long shot to a plane falling out of the sky or a collision with mass casualties.
Face it people right now stepping on a plane you are going against the odds.
Think we have fixed everthing in the air traffic world and planes don’t drop.
Well catch the FAA website and just see how many fall out of the sky each year.

Good thought, Mac, except the right place to go is the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which is the Navy’s counterintelligence arm, not to ONI. NCIS would investigate this — if it’s real…
