If so it would explain his rabid pursuit of Gonzales and the farce of the supposed AG scandal.

Of course it wouldn’t be the first - or second time that Leahy clued the media in on what he disagreed on.

A while back I discovered that Leahy was a subject of two of the stalled leak probes in late 2006, early 2006, and wasn’t at all happy about it. In fact, he raised so much of a fuss that it may have caused the shut down of several leak investigations at that time. For those who doubt the power of Leahy to mettle in the FBI’s dealings they only have to revisit 2002 to remember how he pulled a power grab under the guise of “reform”.

The facts of the main NSA probe into the are still being weighed by a FGJ in Alexandria Va, nevertheless Leahy has always been on my short list of possible suspects.

It’s well known in law enforcement circles that criminals always follow a pattern when committing their offenses. In spite of his protestations Leahy was privy to specific operations of the NSA program, as were other lawmakers.

We know by his past that his “MO” is to leak that which he finds “distasteful” and we know from a perusal documents in public view that he has constantly fought most of the post 9/11 protections that the Bush administration has instituted. Moreover he has been the most outspoken proponent of the surveillance programs.

All of this makes perfect sense about why he is going after this farcical fishing expedition, as if his job, or even more depended on it. It may be a lot more.

In any case he refers to himself as the “cyber-senator”, and that makes his emails and other correspondence accessible under the FOIA.

However, what would really be helpful is if the DOJ could turn up the screws on a few media types who received info from him and let them tell the story.
