“A freeway bridge spanning the Mississippi River collapsed during evening rush hour Wednesday, sending many cars into the water.

Tons of concrete collapsed and there were injuries, authorities said. Survivors were being carried up the riverbank.

Some people were stranded on parts of the bridge that weren’t completely submerged.”

Wizbang and Captains Quarters are on it with links. The bridge is the Highway 35W, and had car apparently were stuck on the bridge when the collaspe occurred. Doesn’t appear to be terrorist related, but they hava team responding checking the support structures according to DHS.

Note, this looks like a bridge failure compounded by the weight of cars being stuck on the bridge coupled with construction going on at the time.
