Not out of the realm, but not ordinary either. I served three years in the 2nd ‘D in Korea and Stateside and there were no Apache Companies, only those designated via phonetic alphabet.

Bear in mind it’s not the only reason I’m smelling it on this article.

The 2nd ID being the “Indian Head” division, it doesn’t seem much of a stretch that a battalion somewhere would have an Apache company.

There is another nicknamed Apache co, which is a striker Battalion that may in Diyala province not Baghdad.

Mac unit designations are named like you say, but units also can have nicknames. However something still doesn't jive here because if you search for Apache Company you come up with 1st Battalion, 34th Armor in the 1st Infrantry Division NOT the 2nd.
