It’s not dead, but slowly dying. Just two weeks ago it was on the way to flying through the Senate and then people actually got around to reading the dang thing, called their Senators and said, “Pass it and you’re out of a job”. In fact some like Senator Lindsey Graham are really beginning to feel the pinch. Now you have Senators running away from the bill as fast as they can and the opposition to the bill growing by the hour.

“Washington, D.C. (AHN)-Senate Republicans are beginning to galvanize opposition to the immigration overhaul that President George Bush has made a domestic priority.

Sen. John Cornyn of Texas, speaking to Bloomberg Television, said the way in which the White House and the bipartisan group brought the bill forward has posed some problems.

“We’re beginning to see some of the people that would have ordinarily voted to proceed with the bill to say, `hey, this process is not fair, it’s not transparent,”’ Senator Cornyn said.

Among those Republicans who Senator Cornyn cited: Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas and Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson of Georgia

On June 26, to inch the bill forward, 60 senators will have to vote to resume debate on the thorny issue.”

“Thorny” ain’t the word. You can add Senator Gordon Smith as a NO as well. This thing is dying faster than Nifong’s legal career (and freedom by the looks of things).

Today the fact that next week there will be a “no” vote on cloture is a far gone conclusion. Inside staffers are beginning to smell the egg on face that normally occurs when politicans try to slide on over on the American people and get caught.

It’s not dead, but it’s just a matter of time. Keep up the pressure, it’s working.
