The Tarrance Group, run by Ed Goeas and part of the esteemed Battleground Poll (done in conjunction with Celinda Lake), has done polling on immigration, too.  And Ronald Kessler at NewsMax reports that when the american public find out the provisions, they like the bill.  77% of Republicans go for it, so do 72% of Democrats, and 70% of Independents.
In essence, what we have here is a case of talk radio (Limbaugh, Ingraham, and Hannity), major conservative opinion outlets (like National Review, Human Events, and Townhall), and columnists (Malkin, Buchanan, etc.) creating an impression of opposition on the right.
There is a reason President Bush is pushing this… and 70%+ in support of the bill when it is explained past the filters of Limbaugh, National Review, and others.¬† In this case, what has provided a bypass for the filters in the past has become a filter.
Folks, Goeas has as long, if not a longer, track record than Rasmussen.  Maybe we ought to listen to the guy.

1Interesting. I got the email from Ron himself on this today, but I emailed back that I would suspect the methodology on it. Simply doesn’t jive with polls - a wide rang of them - conducted thus far.

2Yeah–the question is the answer.
If it’s so damned good why not put the entire thing on the net and take time for a real debate? Why not run it thru the ordinary Committee system first?
Say “comprehensive legislation” to me, and I see a mishmash of compromises which take no consideration of the practical application of the sausage that it is–because the political class never has to live with the consequences of their magical thinking. But we do.
Vote no on cloture and keep the pressure one.

3**”Pressure on***********
From instapundit:
“THEY’RE GETTING KIND OF TESTY in Trent Lott’s office: “A hostile woman answered and told me that my opinions were ‘my prerogative’ and hung up on me without further adieu‚Äî-I did not get a ‘thank you’ or a ‘good-bye.’”
They’re sounding kind of irritated in Jim Webb’s office, too, though it’s not clear how he’ll vote.
The leaders of Incumbistan would rather not even have to answer the phone. Unless, you know, it’s somebody offering them money who’s calling. If you want to annoy any Senators, here’s the contact list.”

4“when we walked through the provisions”
That is what the Terrance Group says. What provisions? I would like to know how the bill was presented. Did they ask if those polled had read it? Did they explain that employers would not be able to verify legality until AFTER they hire someone and that if they learned AFTER hiring someone that they are illegal the employer can be sued for discrimination and the illegal will be given a taxpayer paid for lawyer? Did they ask how those polled felt about the DREAM act provision or did they ask if those polled were aware that the illegal would become eligible for all social welfare benefits American citizens are eligible for ?
This group works for a bunch of Republicans. Which Republicans beside Rudy? Kyl? Graham? McCain?
Somehow I think there is a rat in the pantry with this poll which is the direct opposite of every other poll taken, including the one by James Carville’s group.

6“Without referring to the Senate bill itself or using terms like “amnesty” that are open to interpretation, the firm polled Americans on whether they would favor its components.”
In other words, they asked nothing about what is discussed-the Senate bill. But got the answers they wanted.
” creating an impression of opposition on the right.” No one needs to create it. There is opposition on the right, and there should be a lot more. This bill is a sell out of America.
