A reader on E. J. Dionne’s “Free to Be Al Gore”:

“Gore may or may not have been right on a lot but Mr. Dionne’s contention that conservatives disdain facts they find inconvenient would ring much truer if he were a bit friendlier toward facts himself.

When Gore contested the 2000 election results in Florida, he did NOT seek to have Florida’s votes recounted - only those votes in Democratic leaning Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade in South Florida and Duval in North Florida. It might also have been Hillsborough (Tampa). What it was NOT was a request for a recount in all 67 Florida counties.

Mr. Gore’s team was not interested in having ALL the votes counted, just in finding enough Democratic votes to change the result. It was only a month later after all the Florida Constitutional electoral rules had been deemed invalid by a Florida Supreme Court hellbent on giving every opportunity to Mr. Gore - so much so that even the Florida Chief Justice eventually broke ranks and joined the minority, that any mention of conducting a recount in all the counties was made.

Every independent media -re-count “after the fact” resulted in the “inconvenient truth” for Mr. Dionne that Bush did carry the state. For many of us it was the unsightly playing on TV night after night of “judges” looking for the slightest excuse to place mis-marked, blank or otherwise invalid ballots in Mr. Gore’s column while at the same time challenging the absentee votes of American servicemen and women on the technicalities, that caused disdain and contempt for Mr. Gore’s claim that he was seeking to have the voice of all the people heard.

Mr. Gore had every right to proceed legally in the way he did as did Mr. Bush’s team. The casting of Mr. Gore as an heroic defender of the disenfranchised was the job of folks such as Mr. Dionne - a role they obviously still relish today, regardless of “inconvenient truths”!”

I covered this in this post how the left is trying to create an Al Gore who isn’t there. An Al Gore who is a scholar and a man of the world, when in fact he is an incompetant boob who couldn’t even idenfity the busts of our founding fathers at Monticello in 1993 just before Clinton‚Äôs first Inauguration. Clinton knew he was an idiot that’s why he sent him out of the office so much just to get him “out”.

Look for more of this reconstruction to come, but remember the oft used line, pay no attention to the idiot behind the myth.
