The Berger Story isn’t over
“Samuel R. Berger, the Clinton White House national security adviser who was caught taking highly classified documents from the National Archives, has agreed to forfeit his license to practice law.
In a written statement issued by Larry Breuer, Mr. Berger’s attorney, the former national security adviser said he pleaded guilty in the Justice Department investigation, accepted the penalties sought by the department and recognized that his law license would be affected.
“I have decided to voluntarily relinquish my license,” he said. “While I derived great satisfaction from years of practicing law, I have not done so for 15 years and do not envision returning to the profession. I am very sorry for what I did, and I deeply apologize.”
In giving up his license, Mr. Berger avoids being cross-examined by the Board on Bar Counsel, where he risked further disclosure of specific details of his theft. The agreement is expected to be formalized today.
Mr. Berger, national security adviser from 1997 to 2001, was convicted of removing documents from the Archives in 2005 while preparing to testify before the September 11 commission.”
In light of the absolutely poltical witch trial of Gonzales, this is a national travesty. A former national security advisor of the United States of America lifts documents from the National Archives in order to hide culpability of his former boss in the events that led to 9/11, and gets off with losing his license to practice law.
So is this the end of the story?
Not at all. From the legal sense yes, but not from the fact finding sense. In fact the story can still be told and will be told, especially since the one with much of the knowledge of what Berger took is known by one who is running for President of the United States.
Point of fact this should be a continuing question for Hillary to answer, “What did she know, when did she know it”. In actuality, private citizen organizations can also file for FOIA to assertain all the details of the Berger investigation to see exactly what really went on and exactly what he took.
So the story isn’t over yet, in fact it has just begun.

Just sweep this under the Bush Admin. Rug, along with Able Danger, Plame, and oh, about ten other Dem scandals that this Administration ignored. Gonzales should be gone for not doing anything in the Berger Crime alone, let alone his silence in other Scandals too numerous to mention here. What happens in the Rat Party, STAYS in the Rat Party. Only the Citizens (LEGAL) are hurt.
I wish. He laughs at this, saying he hasn’t practised law for 15 years and it matters not. By giving up his license voluntarily he avoids being questioned by Bar counsel.
And DoJ has still not forced him to undertake a polygraph which was part of the terms of his plea agreement.
Don’t miss Capt ed–he details how DoJ is still dragging its heels on the polygraph and how Waxman is trying to keep them for enforcing the plea agreement polygraph test.
