As Eisner and Waxman rehash old trash, and as the British debacle is fresh on our minds, I want to draw your attention to two must reads in today’s American Thinker.Roy Robison reminds us that Vice President Cheney is absolutely correct when he says Al Qaeda and Saddam had links:
James Lewis reminds us that the European transnationals depend on us for their defense and it’s time to put a halt to all that and rethink all our old alliances:

1I have long been tired of the “hate America” rhetoric that comes from the EU while they rely on us to cover their collective asses. Too bad their memories didn’t last longer than a few years remembering that it was the good ole’ USA that saved their bacon and prevented them from having to live under the protection of a Seig Heil regime.
Funny how the recording at the U.N. seems to be “if you don’t receive an answer, dial 1-800-AME-RICA”.
When an ally stops being an ally it is time to cut the purse strings that digs them out of every hole they manage to get themselves in to.
You can call a neighbor a friend but when he continues to dump his trash on your lawn, expecting you to pick it up, it is time to call him what he is, a pain in the ass who is not worth being friends with.

I could not agree more and think you about said it all. (Love the 1-800-AME-RICA)

3Perhaps it is the hypocrisy that causes the anti-US rhetoric. After all the fiercest critic of of Imperialism in the 19th and 20th Centuries was America (despite being an Imperial power themselves!)
In the 21st Century the world’s foremost Imperial power is now the US.
The US doesn’t ‘protect’ Europe and the Persian Gulf for the benefit Europe, it does it for America. Not only does the US Military ensure that the oil flows unhindered to Europe and the US but can also staunch that flow just as easily. Like the thousands of US military bases in Europe, it is a stick to beat Europe and the rest of the world with and to ensure US global dominance.
It is hard to disagree with a country that has its boot on your throat.

4Sorry but that phrase really annoys Europeans, just whose Bacon did the US save? Germany from themselves? Italy from themselves? Spain weren’t in the war, neither were Switzerland. That just leaves France.
The US joined the war in Europe after the Battle of Britain and after Stalingrad and El Alamein. Some in Europe would say that the tide had already turned. Certainly not the saviour that the US seems to make themselves out to be, good ally certainly, but WWII wasn’t some action film where the US saves the day with daring feats and snatches victory from the jaws of defeat.
Certainly Britain and Russia were not under any real threat. Germany could not invade Britain and Russia had turned into a graveyard for the Germans.
