It’s possible according to at least some authorities familiar with constitutional law matters.¬† One constitutional expert in particular offered this answer via a request from Macsmind:
“If Speaker Pelosi knowingly went on a mideast tour with the expressed purpose to either set or undermine US foreign policy she could be held accountable upon her return”
“The constitutional authority to discuss treaties is the sole right of the President alone and his cabinet”¬† He added, “Thus Speaker Pelosi could be guilty of undermining Presidential authority and therefore could in fact be guilty of an act of sedition against the United States.” …
“At the very least there should be an inquiry to clarify the matter”.
Again, we know that the US Constitution expressly stipulates that the President alone has the authority to set foreign policy, enter into treaties, with consent of the Senate.
“The President shall be commander in chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the militia of the several states, when called into the actual service of the United States; he may require the opinion, in writing, of the principal officer in each of the executive departments, upon any subject relating to the duties of their respective offices, and he shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.
He shall have power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to make treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, judges of the Supreme Court, and all other officers of the United States, whose appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by law: but the Congress may by law vest the appointment of such inferior officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the courts of law, or in the heads of departments.”
It would appear that as a matter of clearing the air House and Senate inquiries should commence immediately upon Pelosi’s return.

1I will fire off a few letters with this suggestion but if things go as usual, she will be viewed as a hero.
What have we come to here in the US?
The Dems are the ones always yelling about the Consitution but when they defy it openly, they are heralded by the press and many of the people.

2Note that Pelosi’s travels in Israel were portrayed as more “sightseeing” than anything else. Also note that there were no high-profile meetings broadcast with photo ops in the news during her stop in Beirut. None of the leadership there wants to be used by Pelosi in her little US domestic political circus. Only Assad sees an opportunity here to take advantage of the situation. Wonder why? Maybe because Assad figures he gets the better end of the deal? Maybe he gets more use out of Pelosi than Pelosi gets out of him.
Shameful. Pelosi ought to be ashamed of herself but she is too much the narcissist. What a jerk!

3Someone should check her bags when she comes back to make sure she isn’t carrying a few million more dollars than when she left.

4Maybe, she did it for her base.
Rush says she told Assad…hang in there we’re soon to be in charge and you’re troubles with the USA will soon end.
I say she has opened a can of bad beans and her unexpected big troubles are incoming….

I always send off am email or letter to my Senators and Congressman so they are aware that all of these things are being scrutinized. There are times I follow up with one to the WH just to let the President know there are those of us who do support him and his policies.
I feel if we do not (in numbers obviously) hold Congress’s feet to the fire, they will choose to just conduct “business as usual”. (If you do not feel your elected Senators or Congressperson from your state will be responsive, choose another.) Sometimes they are better at responding than your own.

7Pelosi Seeks Political Soulmate…
Tired of being beheaded, hijacked, kidnapped and terrorized? Try Dhimmitude! It’s 100% submissive and guaranteed to appease the enemies of freedom. Well, temporally anyway. Because that’s all we have to do you know, is just be nice to them. U.S….

8Thanks, shm, I have been emailing WH and VP quite frequently.
I should email John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchison but not Ned Lamont. GGGRRRRRR!!!
After watching Bush and Cheney in the last few days, I wonder if they are getting a deluge of emails and phone calls from us?
Told them that they need to stand by Gonzales and hopefully to the end of their term.
Thanks for the advice.

You are most welcome. I think it is great that Mac and many other blogs put out all this information daily.
IMHO if it stops at their waters edge we don’t have a chance what with the press being what it is in this country.
If we are to have any chance in 2008 I believe we really need to hold the Republican members of Congress responsible for their actions on every issue. Good luck with your Senators and yes I would email Lamont..the dems need to know we are watching..after all I have Specter and Casey (lol).

10I think what they should do is just refuse her entry back into the US.

11Don’t forget these names:
“Three top-ranking Republicans in the US House of Representatives met Sunday with Syrian President Bashar Assad and later said they had urged Syria to take efforts to stop the influx of foreign fighters into Iraq.
Representatives Frank Wolf (Republican, Virginia), Joe Pitts (Republican, Pennsylvania) and Robert Aderholt (Republican, Alabama) had arrived in Damascus on Saturday on a two-day visit.
On Sunday they first met Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem and then with Assad in concluding the visit before heading to Jordan.”
If you want to argue that NO Congressmen should make foreign policy visits of this sort, that’s a reasonable argument. Singling out Pelosi’s group (which included a Republican, by the way) while ignoring GOPers who do the exact same thing is hypocritical.
This kind of stuff has gone on for years; remember Hastert’s/DeLay’s “we didn’t see any human rights violations” trip to Burma in 1997, when the Administration was openly discussing economic sanctions against that country’s military junta? Were you up in arms then?
C’mon, guys, you have to be consistent.
