As I detailed last night, the newest ‘revelation’ that AG Gonzales has more ‘involvement’ than he previously acknowleded may not be all it appears.
Nevertheless the MSM outlets are running with it, howbeit they are just doing the meme on the AP story. But for kicks let’s look the story from the NY Times:
“Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales and senior advisers discussed the plan to remove seven United States attorneys at a meeting last Nov. 27, 10 days before the dismissals were carried out, according to a Justice Department calendar entry disclosed Friday.
The previously undisclosed meeting appeared to contradict Mr. Gonzales’s previous statements about his knowledge of the dismissals. He said at a news conference on March 13 that he had not participated in any discussions about the removals, but knew in general that his aides were working on personnel changes involving United States attorneys.
Tasia Scolinos, a Justice Department spokeswoman, told reporters on Friday evening that Mr. Gonzales’s attendance at the hourlong meeting was not inconsistent with his past remarks.
‚ÄúHe tasked his chief of staff to carry this plan forward,‚Äù Ms. Scolinos said. ‚ÄúHe did not participate in the selection of the U.S. attorneys to be fired. He did sign off on the final list.”
Here we are with picking and choosing meanings of words, but the fact is that this “shocking memo” appears to be nothing more than a calendar entry where Gonzales met to choose replacement AG’s, which is a meeting he would be at.
I understand some conservatives like Cpt Ed want to throw Gonzales under the bus at this point. As former military and law enforcement I’m all for getting to the truth and weeding out the bad guys, but from the get go this whole supposed scandal struck me as “convenient”. By the way as far as Schumer and Reid saying he “cannot continue and must now leave or else”, screw ‘em, they didn’t vote for his confirmation anyway.
I will agree that Gonzales appears not to be the brightest of the pack, but I would caution all to hold out because I believe – and have a little confirmation – that there is much more to this story. There IS a reason why Democrats are throwing out all the stops to get Gonzales out and it’s not just to “get Bush”.
Think of the democrat’s reasoning behind why they think eight were fired and you’re on track to seeing what may be whole picture.
Much more on this on the MacRanger Show today.

1The AG tasks people with a routine job, sets out the process, and says move forward. It is a political appointment, no biggy. He asks if they followed the process, yes, he signs off on it. Was their explanation contorted, yes, was it messy, yes, is it a crime, no. Did he know the intimate details, no. He runs a whole department, he has to depend on others to do routine jobs. The buck stops with him, but let’s face it, their must be a million other important jobs he is doing, like the war on terror. Making a mountain out of a mole hill is just plain stupid.

6Mac Ranger, we should stand by Gonzales until there’s clear evidence that Gonzales lied or could not perform his job.
His emails are clear that Gonzales followed the book and performed his job.

9Hi gang,
Sorry for being out, 24th wedding aniversary so the missus and I hit the town for some hard partying (actually soda water and steaks – we’re tee totalers).
That last part of the post wasn’t intended to be a “teaser”, it’s just a hunch at this point as I said on the show.
But it is interesting that there is all this energy democrats are expending towards Gonzales is ONLY a chance shot at Bush.
Time will tell however, and yes I agree Gonzales must stay.

It’s always nice to hear of other couples who’ve stayed married longer than the honeymoon. DogMan and I will celebrate our 39th this July.
