While the left wants the head of Alberto Gonzales on a platter, it’s unavoidable to compare this ’scandal’ with those of the Clinton Administration. Now the left says, “Why you want to dig up old history!! Bush is evil!!”, but the fact is that we have another Clinton on the horizon, and because of the complicity of the MSM the real facts behind the most corrupt administration in history. In other words Hillary call for Gonzales’ head makes her and hubby Bill’s record relevant.
So how about a little timeline leading up to what was REALLY a scandal - the abrupt firing of 93 US Attorneys in 1993.
“1/22/93
Nannygate I: Attorney General nominee Zoe Baird withdraws after admitting she hired illegal aliens and neglected to pay their social security taxes.
1/25/93
Hillary Clinton is named to run Clinton’s health care reform task force, which the White House says will cost taxpayers $100,000.
1/29/93
Clinton announces his plan to fully integrate gays into all branches of the military.
2/5/93
Nannygate II: Kimba Wood withdraws her name for nomination as attorney general after it’s disclosed she employed an undocumented worker.
2/9/93
Clinton halts drug testing for White House staff.
Although he had promised to wage war on drugs, Clinton eliminates 83 percent of the staff at the Office of National Drug Control Policy.
3/23/93 On her first day on the job US Attorney General Janet Reno demanded the prompt resignation of all United States Attorneys (93 in all), and unprecedented move in US attorney general history.
Now one might want to remember happened just after this?
4/93 - Waco
5/93 - Travel Gate
7/93 - Vince Foster shows up dead - shot in the head - in the park (much more here).
All of which were easy to sweep under the carpet as the DOJ had a completely freshman class of US Attorneys (especially in Arkansas).
Which brings us once again to “The Hubbal Standard” and the picture which 13 years later is getting even clearer.
“At the time, President Clinton presented the move as something perfectly ordinary: “All those people are routinely replaced,” he told reporters, “and I have not done anything differently.” In fact, the dismissals were unprecedented: Previous Presidents, including Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter, had both retained holdovers from the previous Administration and only replaced them gradually as their tenures expired. This allowed continuity of leadership within the U.S. Attorney offices during the transition.
Equally extraordinary were the politics at play in the firings. At the time, Jay Stephens, then U.S. Attorney in the District of Columbia, was investigating then Ways and Means Chairman Dan Rostenkowski, and was “within 30 days” of making a decision on an indictment. Mr. Rostenkowski, who was shepherding the Clinton’s economic program through Congress, eventually went to jail on mail fraud charges and was later pardoned by Mr. Clinton.
Also at the time, allegations concerning some of the Clintons’ Whitewater dealings were coming to a head. By dismissing all 93 U.S. Attorneys at once, the Clintons conveniently cleared the decks to appoint “Friend of Bill” Paula Casey as the U.S. Attorney for Little Rock. Ms. Casey never did bring any big Whitewater indictments, and she rejected information from another FOB, David Hale, on the business practices of the Arkansas elite including Mr. Clinton. When it comes to “politicizing” Justice, in short, the Bush White House is full of amateurs compared to the Clintons.”
For those of us who felt that that Clinton literally got away with murder during the 90s, in a strange way this fake flap of Al Gonzales and the Eight my be a blessing in disguise. In fact as I said here, and more and more I think I’m right that it may in fact kill the Hillary Clinton campaign before long.

1Great piece Mac and I would like very much to join in on your enthusiasm as this being the downfall for the NY Senator.
The Clintons are a slippery breed and always seem to fly under the radar though and I have given up much hope that any “scandal” will have the legs to stop their power grab.
There is always hope and just like a take down of a few other Dem Senators, perhaps we will awaken one morning and need those sunglasses we have saved from last summer.
