Cheney attack unlikely
It’s amazing how fast the MSM jumps to a conclusion based on upon nothing more that say-so.
“A suicide bomber killed 19 people and wounded 11 outside the main U.S. military base in Afghanistan on Tuesday during a visit by Vice President Dick Cheney, officials said. The Taliban claimed responsibility and said Cheney was the target.
The blast happened near the first security gate outside the base at Bagram, killing 19 people, said Khoja Mohammad Qasim Sayedi, chief of the province’s public health department. Gov. Abdul Jabar Taqwa said “18 to 20 dead bodies” lay on the ground after the blast.
Maj. William Mitchell said it did not appear the explosion was intended as a threat to the vice president.
“He wasn’t near the site of the explosion,” Mitchell said. “He was safely within the base at the time of the explosion.”
However, a purported Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousef Ahmadi, said Cheney was the target of the attack.
“We knew that Dick Cheney would be staying inside the base,” Ahmadi told The Associated Press by telephone. “The attacker was trying to reach Cheney.”
Ahmadi is blowing his own smoke. He hasn’t the intel to have known Cheney was there, nor is a single suicide bomber even a proper MO. Even with resurgent Taliban activity, I doubt that they could have put this together. Still the resurgence is a bother and that is why Cheney was there in the first place, to lock Karzai’s heals.
UPDATE: Of course the left is extremely dissappointed that Cheney wasn’t “wacked”. By their words let them be judged.
UPDATE II: Proving once again the King of the Double Negative, recently pimped Glenn Greenwald opines or is it whines:
“The smoke had barely cleared from the suicide bombing in Afghanistan this morning, near a base where Dick Cheney was located, when right-wing pundits — whose sole expertise seems to be in exploiting terrorism-related issues for political gain — began their attempt to politically exploit the attack on or near Cheney. Seemingly in unison, they all went digging deep into the comment sections of various liberal blogs, found inappropriate and hateful comments, and then began insisting that these isolated comments proved something.”
And they weren’t disappointed now were they? No one hunts where there is no game.
Cripes Salon must be scraping the barrel to have hired this twerp.
UPDATE III: Pajamas Media with the mystery of the disapearing comments from the Huffington Puffington Post.
