Doubting Double Standard
Did you ever notice that the MSM seems to go into a “defense of the accused mode” whenever one of their “darlings” is in a bad light in the news?
Back on January 2nd, the AP ran a story on what appeared to be a “shady” land deal by 2008 Democratic Presidential candidate John Edwards. Immediately there was outrage and knashing of teeth and an all-out effort to “clear the record”.
Today in the Washington Post, Ombudsman Deborah Howell continues the defense by beginning an editorial:
“Accurate stories can be misleading.”
Yeah, like Dan Rather’s “Fake but accurate” mantra.
You’ll remember that just last week CNN moved heaven and earth and Wolf Blitzer to rush to Barak Obama’s aid when a story surfaced that as a child he attended a Mosque.
I don’t personally care about what John Edwards sold and point of fact I find it more funny that while he talks of “Two Americas” he lives in high luxury of the one America from the money he got suing for the other.
But the greater question is where was all this desire to “clear the air” when it comes to false and misleading stories involving conservative persons, or the lack of coverage and desire to clarify real stories of national interest such as the treason committed by Sandy (docs in his pants) Berger?
