The more you hear the left fight the President instead of those who vaporized 3000 americans on 9/11, the more you realize they are hopelessly lost in the morass of dunderheadedness.
Take this post from Steve Clemons from the Washington Note where he asks, “Did the President Declare “Secret War” Against Syria and Iran.”, seems of the same deranged line of reasoning we have been seeing from Democrats for the last four years:
“Washington intelligence, military and foreign policy circles are abuzz today with speculation that the President, yesterday or in recent days, sent a secret Executive Order to the Secretary of Defense and to the Director of the CIA to launch military operations against Syria and Iran.
The President may have started a new secret, informal war against Syria and Iran without the consent of Congress or any broad discussion with the country.”
All together now….”Dunderheads!”…..
Actually the only “buzz” about this is at leftwing moonbat blogs who are so full of BDS that they see “Klingons everywhere!“.
There is nothing secret about persuing terrorists, and if these morons would get out of the Daily Kos and into a dose of rememberance they would remember that the President made it clear from the outset that we would persue terrorists and those who harbor them.
To wit:
“This war will not be like the war against Iraq a decade ago, with a decisive liberation of territory and a swift conclusion. It will not look like the air war above Kosovo two years ago, where no ground troops were used and not a single American was lost in combat.
Our response involves far more than instant retaliation and isolated strikes. Americans should not expect one battle, but a lengthy campaign, unlike any other we have ever seen. It may include dramatic strikes, visible on TV, and covert operations, secret even in success. We will starve terrorists of funding, turn them one against another, drive them from place to place, until there is no refuge or no rest. And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. (Applause.) From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime.” (Speech before Congress and the Nation, Sept 2001.
This would mean Iran and Syria - both of which have been actively enabling the insurgency in Iraq, as well as supporting terrorism world-wide. This means any nation who helps them with the potential to harm us is fair game - end of the story.
Note that nothing in the President’s speech indicated we would fully invade Iran - although as I’ve said before the plans to do so are now in their 26th year. Yet the President has the full authority to do whatever is in his power to protect the lives of America troops much like any field commander would. That would include stikes, disruptions, counter insurgency measures and whatever else is necessary to get the job done. That includes crossing borders to do so.
The War Powers Act of 1973 does tell the President to consult Congress before and at specific intervals during conflict, but he doesn’t have to consult congress on every single move he makes in the the war, or of every little decision, and he especially doesn’t have to bow to to the likes of Chia Biden who would be so busy running to cameras and talking about Indians at the 7/11 that troops would die before he noticed his toupee was drooping.
Perhaps we need to extend the rounding up of “All those who support terrorism” to some of the members of congress and the senate. Perhaps it’s time to just go ahead and lump them in with Al Sadr and Bin Laden as they seem so ingrossed in the hatred of George Bush that they can’t see the real enemy that stand so ready at our door ready to attack us again.
