Ok, now this is getting interesting….

“The US secret service was monitoring Diana’s friendship with the controversial
financier Mr Forstmann for some weeks.

Mohamed Fayed has always insisted the princess and Dodi Fayed were murdered in a plot involving MI6 agents and US intelligence.

The Standard has learned that Diana had agreed to a week’s holiday with princes William and Harry in the US.

She had accepted an invitation from her one-time American boyfriend Mr Forstmann to stay with him at his house in the Hamptons.

But as she was travelling with the princes, she needed the trip to be cleared by the British security services. They surprisingly vetoed Diana’s plans because of concerns about the security surrounding the billionaire’s homes or perhaps a possible threat from elsewhere.

The decision by the security services ultimately led to Diana striking up her friendship with Dodi and returning to the south of France to holiday with him.

This led to her being in Paris on 31 August, the day of the crash.”

Ok, so who is Forstmann?

Theodore Forstmann is a Wall Street legend who had been rumored to have an affair with Diana, and who also considered a run for the New York Senate seat in 2000 – which Hillary won.

He is also a staunch supporter of the Right:

“Forstmann, a high-powered equity investor, has close ties to a number of key rightwing figures. His Forstmann Little buyout firm counts among its former advisers Henry Kissinger and George Shultz. (5) He is the founding chair of Empower America, a rightist outfit led by William Bennett, Jack Kemp, and Jeane Kirkpatrick; and he has served alongside Donald Rumsfeld on the boards of a number of companies, including Gulfstream Aerospace and General Instruments. (6) He also served as co-chair of George H.W. Bush’s reelection campaign in 1992. (7)”

Forstmann heavily funded and supported Republicans in ’94, 96 and 98, which helped to keep the GOP majority during Clinton’s two terms. One could assume easily that he didn’t fit the mode of a “Friend of Bill”.

So was the Clinton administration doing a little “Watergate”, trying to digg up poop on the GOP, or maybe find something to make Forstmann a sort of Abramoff in order to prepare for the 1998 elections where Democrats at the time hoped to pick up 11 seats for control of the house?

Definitely going to dig into this a little.
